'Graveyard' by Jeffrey Lewis with Rachel Lipson ... on nowhere fast records

There's blackbirds on the turnpike in the midnight sun
there's roosters on the railroad, look out here they come
well the sun went down three days ago
and it don't look like its coming up too soon
but I'm walking like a warewolf and I've got my compass pointed at the moon.

When My daddy was a dyin' on his deathbed he said "son,
Don't you never choose to chew no voodoo flavoured bubble gum"
But I chawed myself a jawfull
and I blew a bubble shaped just like a skull
it laughed and bit the head off of a baby before flying off to hell

Oh darlin' May, I am sad and I can't understand the way
that these birds pass before my eyes
they look like water in the sky
if they ask just tell them I'm livin' in the graveyard

Well the moon became a river
and it fell down from the sky
it melted through my vision
and it landed in my eye
I went to see the Shamen
and he turned my head to the face of an old man
I went to see the Shamen
and he smashed my face to dust with his bare hands

I fell down off the mountain
I got stung by a snake
I ate a mouldy cobweb
I puked into the lake
I tied my shoes with tadpoles
and I paid my phonebill with the witches ring
And when I leave this town
ain't noone gonna say that I owe them a thing
..except the witch

Oh Darlin' May I am sad and I can't understand the way
that these birds pass before my eyes
look like water in the sky
If they ask just tell em I'm livin' in the graveyard

Well theres wolves as thin as paper
and they look you in the face
there's spiders big as horses
runnin' all over the place
I wanna build a barn
to put my monsters in
to keep them out of sight
Put a padlock on the graveyard
and go swimming in the black lagoon tonight

And now I hear a knocking
knocking at my old back door
theres a dead dog in the basement
fire on the second floor
the refrigerator's full of blood
and this will be the last you hear from me
Cos by this time tomorrow
I'll be hich-hiking down route infinity

Oh, darlin' May I am sad and I can't understand the way
these birds pass before my eyes look like water in the sky
And if they ask just tell them I'm livin' in the graveyard

Livin' in the Graveyard
