A sticky situation

What a day I had. This morning I got the Daihatsu Fourtrak stuck in the mud at the far north end of the site, miles away from any bulldozers or other rescue vehicles. I didn't have a work mobile with me and we were out of radio range of our workmates. So I used my assistant's phone to call home and get my brother to give me my Dad's mobile phone number. Having called him, he dispatched a coleague in a Nissan Terrano to rescue me.

Unfortunately, with only road tyres, the Terrano didn't even manage to reach us and got bogged as well. :eek2: Call in vehicle number 3, a Land Rover 90. The combination of the Land Rover and the large number of men now gathered managed to push and pull the Terrano out. Now we were only left with the first (and much worse) problem - the Fourtrak. It was totally stuck. The mud was nearly up to the door bottom on the driver's side, however the passenger's side was clear.

Rescue attampt #1
The Land Rover reversed down the valley I was stuck in, the towrope was attached and we tried to tow out the Fourtrak. Even with People pushing and the Land Rover pulling, it wouldn't budge. Then farm boy hugh came up with an ingenious solution. Pulling from above. :chin:

Rescue attempt #2
The fourtrak was in what was basically a huge trench. The Land Rover was positioned up on the "parapet", which was dry enough not to get stuck on, and the tow rope attached. This time it worked!

Free at last!
In its position the Land Rover would not be able to pull us all the way out, so it was driven back down into the valley and pulled the Fourtrak all the way out. We were free at last. :thumb:

We have them so the chap on the pole can talk to the chap on the instrument (and vice-versa). Much easier than hand signals.
