Annoyance at work double standards

bignosegirly0bignosegirly0 Posts: 181 Helping Hand
What I’m complaining about is very small. And I’m not annoyed at the requests, I’m annoyed that others don’t have to follow them.

At work, we have to wear caps and hairnets. All the pretty coworkers don’t wear hairnets and they have hair poking from their hat to look more feminine.

I wanted to look like them, so I followed the same style. Literally every time I walk in, I get told to tuck my hair and wear a hairnet.

I’m happy to follow the rules, but how come the prettier coworkers don’t have to follow them.

Literally on my last shift, I was told by a manager to wear a hairnet, but he didn’t tell the other girl to wear one.

Another double standard is talking negatively about others. Everyone in this workplace talks shit behind everyone’s back. No one gets told off. I do it, and I immediately get told off.

I’m willing to learn from my mistakes, but why is everyone else allowed to gossip about others.

    hey @bignosegirly0 🙂

i totally get why that’s frustrating. it’s not even about the rules themselves, its about the unfairness of how they’re enforced. it really sucks when it feels like certain people get away with things just because of how they look or who they are. the gossip thing is the same - it’s not that you’re trying to stir things up, but if everyone else does it without consequences, it feels unfair to be singled out. i previously worked in a pretty toxic place with similar issues where it certain people could get away with things i wouldn’t have been able to get away with so i do understand how you’re feeling about this situation, and i can assure you, you are NOT alone with this!

i don’t really have a solution, but i just want you to know that your feelings are valid. it’s exhausting dealing with double standards, especially at work where things should be fair. i hope it gets better for you soon, and if you ever need to vent, im here for you!

so so proud of you @bignosegirly0 - you’ve got this <3
