Placement update

I wanted to talk about my placement, which I think is going okay so far. I'm there until Friday, and while it’s not working in the store as I initially thought it would, it can still potentially lead to a job. Everyone seems alright, and they've been letting us go home earlier, which is nice. I'm not finding it too tiring, but I feel a bit nervous about the end of the week and the interview, wondering whether I will get a job or not. I’m trying not to rely too heavily on the outcome to avoid feeling down if things don’t go as hoped, focusing instead on being positive.

It seems that everyone is in a similar situation—looking for work but not quite there yet—so perhaps we all need a bit of support. There are people of different ages, mostly around 19, and a few who are quite a bit older, which reassures me that I’m not behind. I’ve noticed a few individuals who might have previous work experience, which gives me hope. I hope things are starting to fall together, and while it's not over yet, I'm aiming to get into work soon.

I'm grateful for this opportunity. Unlike my previous forklift training, where I felt drained by the end of the first day, I’m feeling good about this placement. We’ve done some teamwork, and I took part a little, giving inputs and ideas, even though it can be hard with everyone being relatively new. I'm a bit shy in social situations, and while people are talking and having a laugh together, I find it difficult to join in. However, I still have time to engage more, and it would be good to share a laugh. For now, I'm going to continue attending until Friday, try my best, and see what happens.

Hey @TheNightmare, thank you so much for sharing your update - I'm really glad that you've managed to get a placement and that you're getting worthwhile experience!

You're definitely right in saying that there are others in a similar situation to yours - it's very difficult to get a job, so there are people of different ages seeking experience to get a job as well. Have you interacted with these individuals also seeking work experience? It's good to be surrounded with a support network where you can help each other, and can really help make you feel less alone

I hear you when you say that you feel shy in social situations and that you find it difficult to join in at times. Adjusting to placement is a gradual process, and you're already doing a great job sharing ideas and working with others! It's completely normal to feel shy since you're not used to it yet. I was the same when I started my placement - I'm here to tell you that it gets better over time and you'll feel more comfortable with the people you're working with as well. And you're right in saying that there are more opportunities for you to engage and make the most of the experience until Friday.

Really happy to hear that things are going great for you, keep us updated :3

Hey, I appreciate your kind words and support. I appreciate your understanding about the challenges of getting a job. To answer your question, I haven’t interacted with those individuals seeking work experience, to be honest. I'm still trying to find my footing, but I see the value in building a support network. I’ll definitely keep that in mind moving forward.

I'm glad to hear that it gets easier over time, and I’m looking forward to making the most of this experience. I’ll keep you all updated. Thanks
