Doctors tests (TW// mentions of medical terms)

Rose113Rose113 Community Champion Posts: 2,394 Boards Champion
So last Monday I was due to have a blood test but it got cancelled so I have it next Monday now at the doctors. Next Thursday (not tomorrow) I have an ultrasound at the twin doctors which I’m glad there actually helping again but on the letter it said this…

TW// medical terms and detail maybe

Note: I have scribbled out the more detailed words just so I don’t trigger anyone but if you know or ever had this then you’ll probably know the words that I scribbled out :)

I’m not booked in for that but apparently the doctor could decide there and then if it’s necessary. Idk what the scan means or what happens but all I know is that I don’t want it :(

Is it wrong for me to want something to show up on the ultrasound just so I don’t have to go through that thing above

Sorry 😔

Hey @Rose113, I can hear how this is worrying you, especially as there's no guidance on why you might need this scan at the moment. Rest assured, it's not guaranteed that you'll need this. I'm not experienced with this myself, but I'd imagine that they'd need to discuss the scan with you and have your consent to do this scan. If you're concerned, I'd contact them to discuss any concerns ahead of the session, so you can discuss this with them. Would contacting the doctor be something you'd feel comfortable doing? We're here to support you <3

@Rose113 that's alright, I think if you contact the practice and let them know what the appointment is about, they can route you to a doctor who's familiar with the test and can discuss it with you :)

I’ve had the same letter before. You can entirely say no. I’ve definitely before, and tbf most of the time they don’t do it especially when they see age. I’ve said no every time and they’ve been able to gather the information they need with just the external ultrasound scan.

The scan would be an internal ultrasound probe - it means they can look at the lining of the womb etc. but again it’s completely optional and the sonographer/radiographer won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do.
Sometimes all you need is one person to believe in you , for you to begin to believe in yourself.
