I really don't like it, like it can get extremely boring like I'm just trying to be constructive like apply to jobs and just attending my work related appointments I have. I know volunteering can be good but personally I think it would get a bit demotivating doing unpaid work because I really think I deserve to be paid for my work and I know it can lead to paid work but my work coach has said this, its not garanteed otherwise I would do it like if I could do a few weeks trial period and then I paid job I'd look at that. I just get scared I wont be sorted by certain times, it causes a lot of stress, worrying and all that. Anyway Im currently not working, is anyone in a similar boat?

@TheNightmare Your not alone in this feeling at all. Im also in a similar boat at the moment where I have just finished a traineeship in tv and film and now I am currently out of work but I am doing exactly the same as you applying for various jobs and roles except that I get a lot of rejections from companies which stresses me out. I know that feeling because it is so tough right with the job market and trying to find employment especially as young people is super challenging right now. I totally get you when you mention about volunteering but wanting to do paid work because I have been told to volunteer but I want to start earning money because I have come to the age when I need to start earning a living. Sometimes though volunteering can be helpful say for boosting your skills and also enhancing your cv so when employers look at ur cv then they can see that you done work experience or volunteering and it can be helpful job wise. Volunteering isn't for everyone I would say as it isn't paid work genuinely though it can lead to paid work eventually. Im always here too if you do need someone to chat to as I know how tough and stressful it is looking for work right now. I know maybe for the time being while searching for job have you done any nice activities or hobbies?. I find having a hobby can help with the worry and stress of job searching. Again im always here if you do need to someone to talk to about employment and finding work. I hope you are able to find something soon and also something you enjoy as well.

    Hi Amy,

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in this job search struggle. I agree, volunteering can help with CVs but isn’t a substitute for paid work.

I’ve been focusing on hobbies to manage stress during the search. I appreciate your offer to chat—it’s great to have support. I hope we both find something rewarding soon.

    Thanks a lot
