Hello :)

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 26 Boards Initiate
I just joined The Mix and I am excited to be a part of the community!

I have quite a few interests: reading books (on religion, philosophy, psychology and self-improvement), spending time outdoors, working out and martial arts, playing board games and baking. Another thing about me is that I converted to Islam around two years ago and I found peace and contentment in the religion.

@Amy22 Thank you for noticing my profile picture! I honestly like how friendly robins are because they will come up so close to you- if I'm gardening then they'll try to find worms from the soil I've disturbed.
And wow! It's interesting that you studied philosophy at A-levels. I had wanted to study that at college too but they didn't offer it where I went.

I hope to have more discussions with you!

@lunarcat522 The book that I have just started reading is Six Pillars of Self-Esteem, which could be classed as either psychology or self-help, but I bought the book called 'The Myth of Normal' by Gabor Mate - which I'm excited to start reading! I have also read No Bad Part - which is about a type of therapy for trauma.

What about you? What psychology books do you like, and do you have any recommendations?

Hey @willowtrees welcome to the mix!! I love reading too, a lot of my fav books fit in with those topics and I also love baking, working out, and board games! You seem super cool and it's also lovely to hear you found peace and contentment through religion! Personally I'm not religious at all but I've always found it really cool how people get so much love and joy from religion. Kinda makes me wish I was religious at times lol, but I can't force mysekf to believe in something I genuinelu believe just doesnt exist yk?

Anyway, welcome to the mix and I hope you're having a great day! :)

@yana Thank you so much! What kind of working out do you do (weightlifting/callisthenics/running/Pilates/etc)?
And yes, you’re right, you can’t force yourself to believe in something that you don’t. It comes from the heart.

@willowtrees i do some weightlifting and i really enjoy just walking on the treadmill with an incline for half an hour every day, it just makes me feel a bit less dead to get my body moving lol. i'm quite new to working out though so every time i go to the gym i just kind of experiment and do whatever feels right. my sister whp i go to the gym with is desperate to go to some pilates class though lol so she might drag me there with her. wbu? :)

@willowtrees I've read The Body Keeps the Score and What My Bones Know (memoir) which have been pretty good

I'm hoping to read Predictably Irrational which sounds interesting

@yana It’s great that you have your sister to go to the gym with! I tend to do a mixture of callisthenics, weightlifting and martial arts. I don’t go to the gym at the moment, but hopeful I will someday. I’ve also been trying to go on walks more regularly too as just that is good for mental health and getting ready for the day.

@lunarcat522 Ooooo yes I have read some of The Body Keeps the Score and I think it was quite good and quite a good starting point for people to read. I haven’t heard of Predictably Irrational before

i totally get you! when I'm doing more physical exercise i just feel better.

it's interesting i was reading about this study the other day and they found that the rates of relapse were significantly lower in people who had taken part in frequent exercise than those who were taking ssris. i just thought that was really interesting.

I love robins so much too because of their curious and friendly nature. Actually in fact once me and my parents managed to get friendly with a robin and they would visit us each day. The robin even brought his family down to see us too and he would chirp as well. We also had a female robin who moved into our bird box in our garden too once and she had baby robins and they were so cute!. Im hoping we get some more in the future!.

Philosophy is a very interesting topic to study I found and also very hard to remember for exams too haha. It was part of the curriculum that I did for RE so I did both ethics and philosophy. I had the option to study sociology but there weren't enough numbers of people signing up for it at A Levels so it was never offered to us.

It will be great to speak to you soon on the boards <3

I hope your doing well <3

    Hugs,
