By public spaces, does it mean indoor spaces? I don't get it

@Loz yes it means public places like inside pubs, restaurants etc. Most have smoking areas outside. It used to be that you could smoke inside those places but it was banned to protect health of non-smokers.

I thought I was gonna get fined or something lol
