Quite recently I wanted to create a thread dedicated to books and all things book related. Feel free to talk about your favourite books or even book recomendations. It would be cool to see what type of books you all like to read <3

    @Amy22 u read my mind i was just thinking abut a book club type thing on the boards! I found out this morning that the new school for good and evil book is out so i think i mite by that this weekend hehe. Wbu what r u reading atm. Thank u for creating this thread its gonna b a lot of fun

    Aw no worries having a book club on here would be awesome. Its kind of funny as I have been reading lots of books but like in tiny bits cause of my focus lol 😂. I got some library books and they are This is not the end by Molly Morris and In Deeper Waters by F.T Lukens. They are pretty good so far. I have to extend them though cause I read very slowly lol. Oo the school of good and evil sounds very good by the way I'll have to check that out at some point!. I know there's a new percy jackson book coming out I believe early September which is exciting!.

    Love this thread! Always looking for new book recs. I’ve not heard of those books before @Amy22 what are they about? I’m currently reading the court of thorns and roses series, I’m on the second book and I’m really enjoying them so far

    @Amy22 my whole childhood revolved around the percy jackson books and now i've got my little sister to read them and she's next level obsessed! she makes solangelo and percabeth edits on capcut xD so yeah with her around all i hear about is the release of every new rick riordan series lol.

    The percy jackson series is amazing. I'm currently on the Heroes of Olympus series The son of Neptune at the moment. I really ship Percy with Rachel though cause they are a duo. I think thats cool she makes edits using capcut I love edits of my favourite books or shows :)

    I think This is not The End is slightly dark but its about a boy who finds out that this girl is immortal I think and they go on a road trip together in an ice cream to save the boy's sisters business I think. I haven't read as much yet but I think that is what it is about. In deeper waters is about an LGBTQ+ romance which takes place on a ship and it is coming of age. :)

    I mean Annabeth is cute and stuff but idk I see Rachel more I think I'm more of a Rachel fan tbh lol. This is not the end is very interesting, the author is called Molly Morris. I'll try to find a pic of the book actually.

    Thought I hop in and give my recommendations. I like reading the classics so you'll see them here:

    1. The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
    2. No Longer Human - Osamu Dazai
    3. The Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka
    4. Paradise Lost - John Milton
    5. Alice's Adventures In Wonderland - Lewis Carroll

    I'm currently reading 'Wuthering Heights' and I'm planning to read 'Crime and Punishment', and then 'Demian'.

    I love classics I'm a fan of dracula and frankenstein. I actually studied frankenstein for my final film project and I reimagined it in the modern day. Frank Kafka is cool too 😎

    Also a book lover! I don't get to do it as much as I'd like, but recently I've been reading some titles from the "Very Short Introductions" series. It covers lots of really interesting topics on politics, history, health etc, definitely worth a browse if you want to learn about a topic but not sure where to start!

    @Amy22 Dracula is on my list of books to read. Perhaps I might read it during October - you know, to fit the Halloween season. And wow you did a reimagined Frankenstein through film? That's awesome! To have that as your assignment seems fun :)
    I'm considering to put Frankenstein on my list of books to read but I need to be really convinced to read it haha.

    @Xee No, I have never but I'm interested. I just love most things with philosophy and psychology, however, what kind of philosophy and psychology Sophie's World explores?

    @CaniceQ Honestly I read it in year 7 so I really can't remember much about it but it's basically about this girl who comes home one day and finds notes asking her questions like 'who are u?', it's more about philosophy than psychology though and I've been meaning to reread it because I remember loving it so much, my RS teacher recommended it to me and that was how I first got into philosophy :)

    It was so amazing to do frakenstein as a modern day film. Well I wrote a pilot episode for a show as I feel like it would a show. In my final project I got to choose whatever topic I wanted to do so I chose that and it was fun. I haven't read the book all yet but it's quite good. I reccomend the book edition with talks about the context more as well as the history of Mary Shelley and how she wrote Frakenstein. I believe she was only 18 or 20 when she wrote the book.

    Psychology books sound great to read. I once read a book on Buddhism and an autobiography of a living Buddhist monk which was interesting. I need to actually finish that book too now inthink as that is book I never finished lol 😂. I also read some self care books too, matt haig is my fav as well as Dan Howell you will get through this night.

    @Xee Ooooh, okay, that seems interesting. You seem to allude to the exploration of personal identity - this is one out of four of my favourite topics as I'm currently investigating it at this moment. I'm just searching the book up on Google and it seems to refer to many scholars whom I'm both familiar and unfamiliar with - I see Freud, Marx, Darwin, Hume, and Locke (though I don't fully agree with their perspectives, they tend to propose thought-provoking arguments which I'm willing to read so this may be good). Omg. There's a film and a video game? What the- I'm really shocked there's a video game. I might check those out after reading this. I'm seeing that it has so many pages and I believe that would make it the longest book for me to read. The longest I've read is what I'm reading now, Wuthering Heights, which has about 300-350 pages - though I believe Crime and Punishment is probably going to beat that record soon. If I'm to read this book, I think it requires a month. Was it an easy and quick read? Just need to make sure I have the time to before the start of my next academic year. I see it explains these scholars' ideas and it being in the form of fiction would probably make it an easier read (I cannot read non-fiction philosophy books - I struggle to understand half of what they're saying as how they write becomes convoluted and they over-explain things which could have said in a single page). The idea of these mysterious notes gives it a bit of mystery so I like this. However, as I'm quite fussy, I hope the philosophy explaining doesn't overshadow the characters. Would you say that the fictional side of the novel is good?

    @Amy22 She wrote it at such a young age!?! Omg, that fact just made me question what the hell I'm doing in my life 😂. I'll definitely take your advice on reading that book edition; having info into Wilde's life did help increase my enjoyment/personal value of what I've read from him. I would really like to see this film you've made, but I guess I'll just leave it to my imagination. Your passion for it makes it seems amazing :) I really wish I could do a project as fun as that. The last fun project I did was a psycho-linguistic lab experiment and a philosophical dissertation-like essay on personal identity. I wish I could get into reading autobiographies; I really don't know what makes it difficult for me to read them since I like looking into people's life (perhaps I prefer looking into them in a different way? idk). Honestly, if I read an autobiography I think I would struggle to finish it too 😂. Self-care books, I was told to start reading some for my well-being but I already have quite a bit of fictional novels and philosophical & psychological research plans to fulfil (also, I have a list of shows and movies to watch). Dan Howell's You will get through the night seems lovely; I like the title.

    @CaniceQ yupp I love freud the most out of those lol I have like three massive books abt freud's work and stuff but omg I didnt know there was a video game and a film, that's so so cool! and yeah I'm totally the same, I love non fiction books but they're so unnecessarily wordy that I tend to just never finish them (my short ass attention span really doesn't help) but yeah from what I remember I don't think the philosophy explaining overshadows the characters, I feel like the fiction element was very prominent :) If you read it at some point lmk how u find it! I'm going to reread it so when I do I can give u a bit more of a better explanation on it if you'd like?

    I studied sigmond Freud as part of my philosophy and ethics religion course in secondary school. I used to do philosophy and I loved learning about different theories and theorists such as Bertrand russell. I believe there are four theorists who are known as the four men of the apocalypse.

    @Xee Yes, That would be lovely. I've decided to put Sophie's World on my booklist. I'm about to finish Wuthering Heights, probably by tomorrow or the following day, and then I plan to read Crime and Punishment, then I am to read Demain (a philosophical fiction on the self) which would be perfectly followed up with Sophie's World. Thank you for the recommendation :) I've just realised that Crime and Punishment is a philosophical book too so this will be a thrilling experience.

    @CaniceQ sounds great! I've been stuck in an endless reading slump but hopefully i can get over it this summer as the stress of exams will be over and I'll hopefully be able to relax more. crime and punishment sounds great, lmk how it is, it's defo on my booklist too :)

    I can't remember now I think its to do with their beliefs and things to do with atheism and science. It is a cool name though for their group.

    Hey guys! I never managed to get into Sophie’s world ngl but mabye ill try it again as i feel it might be one f those books u have to b in the mood for.Since its pride month yaya I’ve ordered a few pride themed books so i got She gets the girl by Rachel Lippincott (Same author as 5 feet apart if u have read that or watched the movie) and also straight expectations by Calum mc swiggan

    Il update u all how I get on with them.Very excited to b off for summer from next week to get struck in haha

    I know a few pride books actually which have pride themes or lgbt+ relationships. Im reading In Deeper Waters which is a queer fantasy book, also at the end of the world I think that's the name is a post apocalyptic fantasy book, and they both die at the end book too. :)

    @CaniceQ Omg I have a whole shelf on my bookshelf of lgbtq+ books (or books with the main character(s) being queer even if that isn't what the book is about). I don't remember many of the top of my head but I can go check later and give u a list if u want? I loveee pride themed books aah
