Worried about my future

TheNightmareTheNightmare Posts: 2,144 Boards Champion
I'm just worried about careers and jobs etc. I just don’t want to be stuck doing anything I don't like. I worry about failing in life, since finishing secondary school not really been happy like not found my feet, Im not really academic at all, I feel like a failure and sometimes feel like I always will be. I have down periods about it and im just feeling down because I'm worried about my future, it sucks, I've been worrying about it for years. I don't know if I'm going to make it in life. I worry that I'm going to be unemployed or stuck in a job I dont like all my life.

    Hi @FordRanger
I’m hearing that you feel anxious around potential careers.
Firstly this feeling is very normal and thank you so much for reaching out to us. What sort of career do you think you would like? The unknown/unexpected can always be nerve wracking but it’s always worth giving something a go and seeing if it’s for you or not. Nothing is ever set in stone and you can always try something else if you don’t like the job you are doing. I’m sure you will get their eventually and we are always here to support you :)

    Hi @ebyrne556
I think I want to do something with motor vehicles, just not sure fully what. Mechanics is hard because I did it for work experience, and it's hard. I'm not sure what to do.

Hey :) Just to help ease a worry, I don't think you'll need to worry about being stuck in a job you won't like forever. In this day and age, people move jobs more frequently so it's completely fine to move between companies if you don't like it/outgrown your role etc. The important thing is that you do something and be proactive in finding your role and understanding the kind of job you'd like to have - you'll only really figure that out by trying out roles and getting practical experience!

Hi @FordRanger I hope your week is going well so far. Ahh ok cool working with motor vehicles sounds like interesting and am I hearing you did mechanics for work experience? That is good practice.

I agree with what @Azziman said. Nothings ever set in stone and theirs a lot of “fluency” with jobs at the minute with people constantly changing careers/moving up. As long as you are happy, healthy and enjoying yourself then no matter how long it takes to get the “dream “career making sure you are ok is the priority. Theirs no point sticking at something that is causing more harm than good to your well-being.

You know where we are if you need us

@ebyrne556 hi again, sorry for replying a bit later. Yh I did it for work experience, not sure if I would do mechanics for a job anymore, though, its kind of unrewarding at times, there's good parts like road testing nice cars though and visits from the snap on guy.

Yh true, I think if you aren't happy that's when you need to change. I'm grateful for the support
