If someone has called you a nasty name and you swore at them through a hand gesture, that is okay, don't punish yourself for that. What 'rise above it' means, is if that were to happen again, then to walk away, to take yourself out of the situation. Sometimes these people want a reaction from you, so to simply walk away is even more of a power move.
