Think it’s a very quiet christmas for us, as usual in our house really just food, chocolate, alcohol, board games christmas music and relaxing. New Years is much of the same though my local pub are doing a little get together on New Year’s Eve for the neighbours so I think we’re going to that.

@zaynab_5 This is such a wonderful thread! Thanks so much!

I'm hoping to go home this Christmas, as I wasn't able to last year due to the pandemic, although that's still debatable considering the new variant. It might be my grandad's last Christmas so I'm really hoping I can get home! We often have steak for Christmas dinner (controversial I know) because none of us really like turkey in our house, but I'm excited for all the chocolate and nibbly bits in the evening!

We'll probably play some games and then everyone else will fall asleep, but I'm just excited to see everyone this year :)

New Year's Day I'm unsure what's happening yet, depending on whether I have an internship or not, It may just be a quite night in watching fireworks from the window, which is more than fine for me :)

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's and please remember, that it's okay to not be okay, even during this time, it can feel very pressurising to consistently be happy, but your feelings are valid and you are so important!

Awesome idea! :) I'll be spending time with friends and family - will be tough to get to see all my loved ones, but I'm going to do my best. I've not normally been big on gift giving but it's something I want to get better at, so I'll have to do some Xmas shopping for the first time - really excited for it! :D

I have home leave for a week so I'll be spending time with my family. :)
On the night of Christmas Eve, I'm going to help my mum with the decorations.
For Christmas, I'm going to have chicken for lunch. Then I'm going to dance to Christmas songs and have scrumptious snacks later in the day, I am really excited.
For New Years Day I'm going to travel to London to see the fireworks. =)

Thanks for initiating this thread @zaynab_5 :)

It has been wonderful reading everyone's responses!

Common themes are lots of food and time with loved ones.

This is very similar to my own plans.

Christmas day - chocolate for breakfast followed by lots of pigs and blankets and Yorkshire pudding for me along with roast potatoes. I will be staying home with my family. Planning to watch TV with them and listen to music.

New Year's Eve will also be with my family, eating party food, reflecting on the last year, and setting goals for the new year. I will be graduating into my first job in 2022 so a job will of course be one of my main goals!

If anyone else wishes to share, please feel free to do so. It makes me happy to hear what you are all up to over Christmas and New Year's Eve :)

    New Year's Day
    • Going to a New Year's Day Party with my best friends
    • Might be eating out somewhere after that, with lots of alcohol :D
  • Laura_tigger82Laura_tigger82 Moderator Posts: 5,307 Part of The Furniture
They sound like wonderful plans @Isabelle :)

I particularly like the sound of Christmas bingo :3

Having said that, time with family and friends and lots of food is also great.

I hope you enjoy Christmas Day and New Year's Day! <3

I'm too stuffed after christmas :) We had ham on the 24th and then Turkey for our main meal on the 25th. As usual there we've got too much food so will be living off leftovers this week.

I'm staying at my families house for christmas which is nice as it's one of the few times we can all get together and then for the new year I'm not sure what I'm doing yet. I was meant to be spending it with friends but a lot has been cancelled lately.

Thank you for this lovely thread @Past User . I was at home with my family for Christmas, went for a walk in the park and saw my neighbours, think I will be doing the same for New Year. Hope everyone has been able to have a rest.

Love this thread <3 New Year's is likely to be very quiet this year, with numbers ever increasing I'm a bit anxious about the idea of going somewhere really busy like a pub, but I hope to have a relaxing time with friends at home =)

Ooh lovely!! How was it in the end? When it hits midnight what is your tradition (e.g. watch the fireworks)? or do you change it up every year? xx @Laura_tigger82

    Hey @AislingDM

How was your New Year's Eve?

This year I was asleep by midnight! It turns out I just wanted my comfy blankets. Though, we did have some party food earlier in the evening.

I usually try to stay up and watch the fireworks with my family :3

Hi @Laura_tigger82 I took 2 weeks holiday from work as had a lot of personal stuff to get done so my Christmas holiday was mostly a working one. I've been in the process of renovating my bathroom and so apart from Christmas day and Christmas eve, I've been doing that with my dad. I've also just been helping them around their house with other DIY projects.

I enjoyed the big Christmas meals with them and also I went ice skating with my girlfriend which my parents came to watch which is a new tradition we started last year and then in the evenings we would watch a family film.

What did you get up to over Christmas?

    Hi @Friendlyneighbour

Aww, you sound like you have been really productive over your holiday period! How are the house and other DIY projects doing currently? It is nice to hear that despite all that productivity, you also had some restful time with your family. What family film did you opt for? My time was similar to yours minus the productivity, a lot of time with family, eating too much, and catching up on sleep :3

I love that though, sometimes NYE gets made into a much more pressurising holiday than is necessary, where you're scrambling to find some sort of specific activity to do, that's why I love just being able to be at home and relax as the New Year comes in, which is exactly what I did with a handful of friends <3 Honestly, you didn't miss much with the fireworks in London, they seemed kinda so-so to me, but equally we are in a pandemic so maybe I'm just being way too harsh!! =)

    Hey @AislingDM

I am glad you managed to relax with a handful of friends! I know that's how you were hoping to spend New Year's Eve. It is great to hear you got to enjoy it in the way you wanted to rather than being pressured to spend it in a particular way. Oh, I have also heard mixed reviews about the fireworks. As you said though, we are in a pandemic and hopefully, they'll be even better after the pandemic! :3
