Hey Hey SuperStars 🕵️‍♀️

We're going to be running a 2-week student-focused campaign which supports university students who are coming to the end of the final summer term .

We've teamed up with Student Space to highlighting what support services we have for students, but we want to hear what you guys would like to see!

Any main themes or content you'd like to see from us?! Here's some questions to help with the thinking
  • What do you think are the biggest issues impacting university students right now?
  • What kind of support do you think would be most helpful for university students at this time?
  • Do you have any ideas for how we could reach and engage uni students through this 2-week campaign?
  • Do you have any ideas for video, article or social media content we could produce for uni students?
  • What's the main message you think we should be sending students about The Mix?

(You don't have to be a uni student to give your opinion on this!)

    Hey @Emma_ :3

I love this! I started uni this academic year and it's such an odd year to start - I'm so happy there's gonna be a campaign around this, so exciting! (Apologies for the long post :joy:

What do you think are the biggest issues impacting university students right now?
I think one of biggest issues is finding motivation. We've been doing uni online all year and there's not much to look forward to, we spend all day learning from a screen and most of the time there's issues with connection or audio or something. There's not much interaction compared to if we had done it normally and we can't use the facilities - like I study a neuroscience degree and we can't be in the lab or anything which sucks.

It's also exam time which means we have to do our exams from home too. A lot of people don't have a quiet place to do their exams or a suitable environment where they won't be distracted - I study from Halls and there's constantly noise everywhere. Having that paired with a lack of motivation is not a recipe for success.

What kind of support do you think would be most helpful for university students at this time?
It could be useful to have some content around how to set up an exam space, as a lot of people would benefit from that. And also things to empower and motivate students - remind them why they came to uni in the first place, and hold out hope that everything will return back to normal next year. And I think doing that could push students realise it's not going to be like this forever.

It's also a very lonely time - a lot of students are either in accommodation alone or with only a few people, or have gone home because it's online. I know I was living alone for a few months and it was an incredibly lonely time. So perhaps support around loneliness.

Not forgetting stress too, exams are stressful in themselves, let alone doing them at home and trying to learn content from a screen - it is really hard sometimes.

Do you have any ideas for how we could reach and engage uni students through this 2-week campaign?
    • Having unis share the content on their pages
    • Contacting universities students' unions
    • Get uni students to share with their peers

Do you have any ideas for video, article or social media content we could produce for uni students?
    • Having things produced by students to make them relatable
    • "Top-tip" type things
    • Something motivational
    • How to deal with stress
    • How to deal with loneliness

What's the main message you think we should be sending students about The Mix?
I think the message should be that "you can make it" type thing - its been a tough year for students and we're so close to the end, we just need to keep going. And hopefully after this year it will go back to normal. Like it's so close to the end of the year that motivation is low, I think student's need a little pick-me-up.

Love this so much! I'm a uni student, so I appreciate this a lot

What do you think are the biggest issues impacting university students right now?
Isolation (especially for those at home, not on campus)
Accessing support. Sometimes you just need to knock on your lecturer’s office door and have a proper chat, not being able to do that is tough. Emails aren’t the same!
What kind of support do you think would be most helpful for university students at this time?
Regular drop in slots that are easy to book. So this would be the equivalent of booking to see them in their office, but instead you have a video chat. This could be with lecturers, but also sixth career advisors.
Advice about how to switch off from uni work. I find myself over-working as there’s less socialising going on right now, so I just keep going!
Do you have any ideas for how we could reach and engage uni students through this 2-week campaign?
Collaborate with student bloggers for good audience reach (Eve Bennett, Ruby Granger, Vee, people like that)
Tik Tok! Tonnes of students on there, do some promo videos about the campaign and maybe start a trend about uni student self care or something like that

Do you have any ideas for video, article or social media content we could produce for uni students?
    Motivational tik toks/instagram reels
Articles - something that reminds people to prioritise their mental health over work, and ways that they can do this.

What's the main message you think we should be sending students about The Mix?
The Mix are here for anything. When we are isolated from our friends and normality, we can always reach the mix even just for company. It’s important to prioritise your mental health, not just academics, and the mix can help you to do that :)

@coc0mac I totally agree with you! Especially about switching off from uni work, because there's not much else to do at the moment I always find that's it's ALL I do which isnt good!
