Former MemberFormer Member Living the Zen life 🧘🏼‍♀️Posts: 1,989 Extreme Poster
Hey guy!

So tonight we help a workshop were young people could share their thoughts about coming out of lockdown and what The Mix can do to support young people through this jouney.

If you were in the chat but didn't get to say all you wished too, or if you were not able to attend the chat, then this is the place to go!

I will be posting the topics covered in the comments below soon!

Here at The Mix our youth reps have been hearing from other young people
about what’s most worrying them when it comes to Covid, the future and
    lockdown lifting.

We are keen to share four of these with you and see what you think.
The youth reps identified that a lot of people’s mental health has been
affected negatively with change in routine, lack of motivation and
diminishing support networks (friends and services moving online) being
    mentioned regularly.

They heard that many people are concerned about social interactions and
the importance of using social media to maintain friendships. Many were
concerned they would be ‘out of practice’ when socialising.

Some of the people the reps spoke to also mentioned concerns about
friendships/relationships caused by different opinions on the seriousness of
COVID e.g. ‘lockdown doesn’t apply to me’

With ‘returning to the norm’ the reps heard concerns over ‘stricter policies’
in education and everyday life (social distancing related).

Is this true for you? Is there anything we’ve missed?

@GreenTea That's exactly what this thread is for! This thread is for community members to share their views on this and I can assure you that these will be heard just as much as the chat will be! If you would rather, you are able to send your replies through to The Mix and they will be able to pass them on also :)

Hmm I disagree with the statement of being heard just as much as chat. But ok
Just feel like the community should of been invited

@GreenTea I can assure you that you definitely will be heard, I myself will be sending an email back to the staff team with everyone's responses on it, I think it will also be important for me to share the email with you guys to make you I have heard you write. The responses from this will be grouped together with the responses from the chat so both with be fully considered :)

If you would like to leave some feedback about how this chat was ran, you are more than welcome to PM @themix :)

I do agree with @GreenTea that this should perhaps have been published on the boards, as many of us don’t really look elsewhere on the website.

In terms of lockdown I think it’s hard when you’ve been stuck in the house for so many months by law to then venture out again and socialise. Especially for those of us who had anxiety etc before lockdown I think covid has made that worse to an extent.

I think another difficulty is that services are not only being moved online, but the criteria for being accepted by NHS services specifically has changed and meant that many of us, including myself, have struggled to access support and been told to “come back when covid is over”.

@GreenTea @independent_ I have past this feedback about possibly putting future chats on the boards to the team :) Unfortunately I myself do not have any control of this but I will by all means advocate for the voice of the community :)

Thank you for passing that on @Eleanor :) I know I don’t look on other parts of the website very often and I can imagine others are the same so definitely worth considering for the future.

No problem @independent_ :) As @Aidan, it is definitely worth checking out the other parts of the website! You may come across something useful and you can take a look at the work The Mix have been doing recently :)

Just chipping in with some context about why this wasn't posted here. :)

We do a lot of co-design work with young people, and a key part of that process is making sure the groups of young people who participate in these things are diverse. That sometimes means advertising these opportunities in different places (e.g. on social media, via different organisations, here on the community, etc). That's quite deliberate and means we reach different audiences.

That said, this is good feedback for us. We'll have a think about how we can make sure these things are offered across multiple groups of people in a fair way, which may mean capping numbers on who comes from where (e.g. 5 people from the community, 5 from the website, etc.). Thanks for letting us know your thoughts everyone and, as always, this feedback will be taken on board. :)
