Mobile Contract - High Street Vs Web Deal?

I am up for a renewal on my T-Mobile contract and I know the easy thing would be to get an upgrade and another 18 month contract, but I am not sure if this is the most sensible thing to do.
I am looking a bit more carefully into how many minutes/texts I actually use so that my package is relevent to my usage but I also want to know if it is worth me looking at some of the online deals you can get as there is no doubt some of them are cheaper.
If I buy from a website and I have a problem with my phone, can I walk into the highstreet shop even if I didn't take the contract out directly with them?
I do have a habit of having problems with phones and the T-Mobile store have been fantastic, I just don't know if that is a good enough reason to stay?
