Animal testing rises under Labour

Apparently animal testing on household products has increased 15% since 2001. Does this show a disregard from the current government on the issue of animal rights that the seriousness of using an animal for research has disappeared? In March 2009, a complete ban on cosmetic products that have been tested on animals comes into effect throughout the EU. Should this be extended to household products such cleaning products?

Incidentally, in 2007 Ed Balls' very own father, a zoology professor criticised the government for this. It seems that no notice has been taken.
