The BEST thing I've done with my free time over Xmas

Hey everyone

While it's fresh in my mind I wanted to share something I took part in yesterday... I usually get quite bored over the Xmas period, I have the week off but many of my friends and family don't. I was reading this article http://www.themix.org.uk/work-and-st...tmas-2063.html so had a browse at when the Crisis homeless centres in London were open and found 3 days I was free for, the first one being yesterday!

For anyone who wants to help/gets lonely/has free time over the Xmas period, I really recommend having a look at this (if 16 or over). I worked at one of their Day Centres in London where I greeted guests and chatted to them over a cuppa. This place is amazing, there are like 100 volunteers on every shift doing everything imaginable, from cooking to cleaning to chatting to driving to sorting through clothes, doing manicures and generally making sure the guests have the best experience possible. You can choose what you do during the day based upon what you feel comfortable with.

Our shift manager shared a few stats when we closed, the headlines being that we served 350 hot meals and made 80 referrals to overnight centres... That means we helped get beds for 80 people who would have been outside in the freezing cold. I am so proud of being part of that and I can't wait for my next 2 shifts.

Here's the link if anyone is interested https://www.crisis.org.uk/get-involv...-at-christmas/

Has anyone done anything similar they would recommend, during the Xmas break or otherwise?
