Christmas ranty thread

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,875,648 The Mix Honorary Guru
So it's that time of year again!
Some love it and some hate it, it can be one of the best times or one of the worst times.
So we've created this thread in order for people to rant about anything Christmas related, or to just rant over the Christmas period, anything as big or as small as you like. We're here to listen
Take care of yourselves this Christmas, you're not alone *hug*

We put the christmas tree up yesterday and we're gonna get some decoration today (all housemates not just me and sam) anyways, One of our housemates is a Muslim and he's complaining to the landlord to get everything taken down....Eurgh.

Hopefully landlord will favour with the majority, if not, could you decorate your own rooms instead?

Urgh. There are some people who decorate their houses in October, apparently!

Another one - the whole materialism. I think some people just miss the whole point of Christmas.

I've been absolutely obsessed with the "weeee wish you a merry christmas" song basically all year - I'm excited that I can sing it now without people being like wtf xD

    lol

I seem to remember getting a very strange look from someone years ago for asking for a Christmas song in September! I do have a Christmas song on my ipod and have done all year. But I'm lazy and can't be bothered to delete it...

I wear Christmas socks all year - because I'm lazy. People always pick me up on it and it makes me grr!

I hate how Christmas is all about the money, money, money. Nope.

Christmas Swing. It's a Jazz song from the late 1930s.

Your landlord should defo favour you guys on this, they can't really say much because it's not in the agreement or anything, but strangely enough, despite being the only Muslim in my student house, I want everything to be festive, because I think its beautiful <3 - But we have like zilch up :( I love getting involved in the holiday season, Christmas meals etc. Like me and a few friends are having a Vegan Christmas meal soon and I'm buzzing. Got a Vegan roast and everything.

I'm a scrooge, but Christmas is like a time to bond, etc. Which I love. It's just an exhausting, expensive season, plus, if you've had to deal with shit like around this time of year like previous years then it does feel a bit meh.

Have you watched the bbc programme "back in time for christmas" Its really interesting! It shows how christmas has changed over the last 6 decades through a family who experiences the different christmases in the 40s,50s,60s,70s,80s and 90s. I agree christmas is way too commercialised now but its interesting to se how it used to be :P x

No I haven't but I will! I did go to a museum in London the other week though that showed how Christmas had been celebrated in middle class houses since 1780-something. Very interesting!

So you have two weeks off for Christmas and new year and got a thousand pound bonus. Please stop rubbing it in my face. Some of us still have to work OVER Christmas.

So, you all know that Christmas is always on the same day every single year, why do so many people leave it until the last minute? I had to go into town yesterday. Something that should take me about 15 minutes. It was so packed. Moving was impossible because so many people were dragging their children around town - children who quite clearly didn't want to be there.

At times, I'm glad we have online shopping. Even if waiting in for parcels is a pain in the arse.

I hate Christmas cards. So pointless. And all smarmy and 'to my lovely x' or 'to the best x' please. Just write Merry Christmas on them, it'll make the decision process much easier.

    CHRISTMAS. SONGS. REPEAT. NO.

People driving home for Christmas that have clearly not driven on a motorway since probably last Christmas. Witnessed some terrible driving from cars stacked up with presents today.

Got a big ugly boot for my fractured foot!

On the upside, looking forward to decorating it with tinsel on Christmas :d

My mums job means that someone has to work over Christmas. It's alwYs her. Apparently, because her children are grown up, it doesn't matter that she may want some time off over Christmas. She's also been sent a shitty email again about not being ill over Christmas. She works on care where there are laws in regards to sickness and working.

It's always a scary thought that, like I struggle to accept that I'm at University second year. But you can get through this, and were all here supporting you!

Crikey bob, can only imagine what a pain that must be. As I'm not to sure what she does, is she working all day today? Maybe when she gets home surprise her with dinner or something?
