Racist thugs force out Brownie pack

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
The church in question has been used for Brownie meetings for 70
years, but no more alas. The police claim to be 'saddened to learn' of
this abuse and intimidation, despite a history of previous incidents
being reported - with no result. Where's the ANL when you need 'em, or
even the BBC - they always cover the Holy Cross School situation
fairly comprehensively - wonder why they've shown no interest in this.

"Thugs force out Brownies "

A BROWNIE pack has been forced to leave the church where it has met
for more than 20 years after parents and pack leaders ran the gauntlet
of racist taunts and stone throwing from local youths.

Lucy-Jane Marshall, who took over as Brown Owl at the 18th St Philip's
Bradford Brownies last September, said she had moved the pack from St
Philip's Church in Thorn Street after enduring months of abuse on the
way to and from weekly meetings.

Church member Miss Marshall, 22, said that on one occasion a gang of
youths had thrown large stones at her and called her a "Christian
bitch". She said parents' cars had been pelted with stones and eggs
several times.

The church has held brownie meetings since the movement began in the
1930s. The present pack, which has 17 members aged seven to 10, was
set up in 1979 and has met at the church ever since. It now meets at
another venue in the city, which Miss Marshall does not wish to be
identified for fear of further attacks.

She said she was prompted to speak out about the catalogue of
incidents which the pack had experienced following last week's
attempted arson attack on the church. Vicar Tony Tooby was attacked by
a gang of up to 60 masked youths who hurled fireworks and stones at
his car.

Mr Tooby saw the gang vandalising the church when he went to deliver
wood to a community bonfire across the road and escaped in his car as
a brick was thrown through his rear windscreen.

Miss Marshall said: "Last Tuesday, while listening to the news, I
heard someone mention that this was the first attack ever reported,
but this is so untrue. On every occasion the police were contacted.
When the incident happened with me, the police arrived and the four
boys, aged 16-plus, had disappeared by this time. I was on my own and
I was really frightened.

"At the moment the community says it is thuggery, but I believe the
opposite. If I was an Asian lady walking to the church she would not
have got the treatment I got. I was called a Christian bitch. If that
isn't racist, what is?"

Ayub Laher, vice president of the Bradford Council of Mosques, said
youths responsible for that kind of behaviour did not realise the fear
they were spreading among the community.

He said: "They think it is fun to frighten some poor lady, but what
they think is harmless fun is frightening people out of their lives.
It is very difficult to control because in many cases, people know who
is responsible and where they live but fear recriminations." Mr Laher
said a "copycat culture" was developing which saw younger boys
stepping into the shoes of older brothers and following the pattern of
thuggish behaviour.

"What we must try and do in all communities is to get parents and
older children to set an example at home," he said.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "We were concerned and
saddened to learn that the brownies have been forced to move out of
the church because of harassment fears. Incidents like this on local
community groups who are working for the good of the community are to
be deplored and are being looked into by the police as a result of the
recent incident at St Philip's Church."

He added: "We ask people to work together for the good of the
community."

That's awful - any rational person would tell you that.

Unfortunately, someone will see this as yet another example of all muslims being bad people. Thankfully, no one on thse boards would be as stupid as to come tot hat conclusion, would they.

I wasnt saying all Muslims are bad..Thats obviously untrue. Just pointing out yet another hidden incident. Our disgusting press refuse to admit these things happen.

This is an awful incident but in the eyes of the media it would be a MILLION times worse had it been a group of white kids terrorising a group of young muslim girls.

Theres never going to be an end to racism in this country until everybody, inlcuding the media sees everyone as equal.

And some still wonder why I advocate for the nukeing of Mecca & Medina...and the expulsion of all of islam back to 'islamic' lands...and I better stop before my blood pressure gets the best of me and I get banned again...!

Any notion that any of these people will 'assimilate' into any other society or culture other than islam is pure poppycock and wishfull thinking.

As for the media...they do the same thing here in US and Canada...if it is an act by a white it is widely reported with photographs if available...if it is a black or other minority...if it does get reported, no photographs or mention of 'race' in article...considering that 80% of crime in US is drug related and done by blacks...often on other blacks...you would hope that folks would get upset about the deliberate coverup!

    Hmmm,...

Yes I'm just wondering what the direct relationship to Islam per se' is also?

Not only that but being called a 'christian bitch' may be aufull but it doesn't account to racism. Affter all christianity isn't a race.

Does that mean the same can be said about anti-Islamic comments? Blunkett has included religious hatred in his 'hate crime' legislation despite it being a choice. Anyone who says anything against Islam is branded racist these days.

Squinty, the direct relationship to Islam is the simple fact that these were Muslim thugs terrorising a Christian woman. There is rather a lot of religious debate going on in the wider world at the moment so I thought this topic was relevant to current affairs.

I did indeed [T], but did you notice the press coverage that all anti-islamic bigotry gets whereas this incident is reported in the Yorkshire post and nothing else.

Just sickened by the ever present double standards of our media...

Diesel is as Diesel does...I like that.

Yes folks, I am anti-islamic...if that brands me as anti-cleric (anti-taliban) then so be it...no shame, no regret, and damn sure no apologies!

Like it or not, islam is the the enemy of all mankind...and it does get worse. Civilization can't afford the luxury of such PC commitments as allow the treason to mankind in our midst as 'equals' and make welcome our own destruction to prove the worthless points of 'multiculturalism' and its attndant inequalities!

Diesel is as Diesel does - perhaps.

However, I doubt that you -(Diesel)- are able to comment upon behalf of the whole of 'mankind'.

This is getting out of hand - go and post anti-semitic comments elsewhere.

A forum for constructive debate - yes.

A platform for the promotion of your 'hatred' -no.

My apologies to the other contributors on this thread.
