We had naff school quiz - I said 6 and I was wrong apparently.
Pffffft. So now I say 7.

I go with Innocent. That's what I got taught at school (granted about 15 years ago now). Have they changed?

As earlier stated some call is just Australia and not Austrilasia/Oceania.

And Europe and Asia are combined into one now.

Any geography teachers out there. What are they teaching in the sylabis (/sp?)

Yes, Australia is a continent. At least, it is commonly referred to as being one, whether it incorporates wherever (whenever! We're meant to be together!) or whathaveyou.

    What?

okay this is what worldatlas.com reckons

depending on your school of geography, Australia is either a separate continent that's not considered an island, or the largest island on the planet and the largest part of the smallest continent.

    they also say

Many modern atlases and geography experts now consider the long-established continent of Australia to be better defined as Australia/Oceania, which then combines and includes all of (Australia), the large island groups of New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomons, and the countless volcanic and coral islands of the south Pacific Ocean including those of Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia.

so basically, australia used to be a continent but then the geography people got bored and decided to add some other countries to it, dickheads
