It is a subject that should be close to everyone's heart...the opportunity to serve and protect your nation while having an opportunity to train with and use a bunch of really neat but prohibited 'toys' of national character.

I just threw in the armadillo because he be kuel!

I would welcome consctiption here as from now all 18yr olds to do 3 yrs service....watch the rate of immigrants fall as all the young men that pretend to need asylum realise they have to do military service.

I'd even re enlist just to be their platoon Sgt. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL... sucking in wind... LOLOLOLOLOL

Id love to see that here in the UK..Might actually instill some responsibility and common sense into the public.

Doubt it will happen in the US though..The ACLU will have a field day with that proposal.

While I wholehertedly applaud the idea of volunteer service to the body politic I absolutely will not support conscription of any kind, universal or not. Let us not mince words: conscription is slavery. If the United States (or any other country for that matter) cannot guarantee its own security through the freely-given volunteer service of its own citizenry then let the damn thing die!

I am in no rush to die so that the monarchy and the 'Labour' Government can still live. Blair wants war, let Blair fight the war. And if people wish to join the armed forces then I am in great gratitude to them, but it is their own lookout. They make the choice to risk death, its not one Im willing to make. Especially not for Tony Blair.

Ever wondered why members of the armed forces take their oath of alliegance to the queen and not to the government of the day? Its because people join up to fight for their country, not for their government. The army is not the PM's toy. He just doesn't seem to have noticed.

Notice in Zimbabwe, the army have said that they will not accept any other government than Mugabe's. This is why I don't want a republic.
