Why are somethings accepted and others not?

Why is it perfectly acceptable for someone like George W. Bush to say how religious he is and that he believes in God, etc.

But if he were to say he believes there are little green men in outerspace he'd probabaly be locked up?

Why is it less acceptable to most people to believe in ghosts then God?

People like him are expected to follow the dominant ideology within society and if they don't follow the dominant ideology then they are considered outsiders.

What about the devil? I wouldn't say he was considered relativly harmless but he doesn't cause mass panic.
