But Kaz, I have been over there...love the people, hate their politics...english cooking sucks...and being an amateur anthropologist/archaeologist there is just so much to be facinated with....

But, ski season is coming fast and the only place I am going is up on the mountain(s) and down again...with the kids, grandkids, family, etc. See...we do more than shoot guns...though our favorite resort has an Army tank that they use to control avalenges with...by shooting HEAT rounds from the main gun...gotta love the atmosphere...down the hog's back with incoming...!

So Kaz, what happened to the original Irish church after the catholics came in? Any idea at all...just absorbed maybe?

you miss the mark a bit there diesel. these people CANT be separated by accent, or by genetic traits. the problem lies far less with the people, and far more with the politics - each side wants to achieve a greater influence than the other, hence the fact that sometimes extreme measures are taken (foolishly). and forgive me if i'm wrong, but using force to supress political debate is never really a good idea.

just a wee historical corerction - the irish church was 'catholic'. it only had that denomination given to it after the reformation. the Church of Ireland on the other hand, was the Established protestant church. but i think i've posted all this elsewhere before.

Actually, the 'church' I'm talking about predates the catholic church...definately different from either the catholic or protestant churches and no ties to the Greek or Russian Orthodox...all that appears to be left is a few piles of stone and some runes...?

Kaz, come on over and go skiing with us...we have plenty of Xtra equipment...you get here and we'll house and feed you...and take you skiing. My 22 year old Ukranian lady friend will be joining us this year...she only got out once last season....
