Weren't You Taught This At School?!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Just a lil rant about Spelling and Grammar!!

ARGH! what is it with people and their crappy spelling and grammar?

for example: It's "Smaller THAN" NOT "Smaller THEN"!!!

and it's also "DEFINITELY" NOT "definitly, definatly etc.

and it's also "A LOT" NOT "alot"!! Argh I'm going nuts!!!

Sorry bout the rant, but it's one thing that does bug me... anyone else out there it bugs?? Or am I just a pedantic lil twerp?

Ilora x

Yeah - it really bugs me. I hate it when people don't know the difference between YOU'RE and YOUR ot THERE and THEIR, or TO and TOO...

Typos I can forgive, and perhaps a little bit of spelling (I'm bad myself) but get the grammar correct kids!!

Can exceptions be made to foreigners? :p;)

Although yes, when I do notice things like that they sometimes do irritate me. But then again, I am probably just as bad myself. :p

Yeah - foreigners are exempt. The English language is a hard one to learn because of things like Hare and Hair and Peace and piece.

the thing you have to remember is that 'their' means it belongs to them, 'they're' means they are and 'there' means 'over there' if that makes sense.

    like you're and your.

'you're' is YOU ARE and 'Your' is ..as in 'Get your cardigan' Its yours, not you'res

Well not everyone has excellent teaching facilities available to them, in many cases its due to poor education!

So no it doesn't bother me!

I can't believe the number of people who have poor grammar, use the wrong word, or just can't spell. It's not worth having a go at them though, as it just makes you look picky, and sods law says you'll make a mistake somewhere in your reply too. :)

Usually, the text talk people annoy me much more. Because they are usually just too lazy to type. I can forgive people for not knowing how to type a certain thing because there are a ton of words in each language to remember and some complicated stuff may end up being spelled wrong.
Especially in English where a lot of words have got odd spellings that don't reflect how they are spoken.

'Alright' is losing fashion - 'all right' is the better one to use.

People mixing up 'its' and 'it's' reeeeeaaally annoys me. But life's too short to get too stressed about too many things like that :)

I know, annoys me when people dont use correct grammar. I think I'm rather good in that area and I usually get the urge to tell people that it's ''they're" not "their"

    But thats just me :)

i have a genuine excuse, i suffer from dyslexia, ive had to ask my dad how to spell most words just for this one reply.
The thing i get most wrong is the "ing" at the end of words. for some reason i write it as "ign" i dont know why i do it i just do. sorry if it gets on peoples nevers but i cant help it.

    Tonight's news:
"A man was murdered earlier this evening when a group of boys lost their....OMG WAIT! FORGET THAT! THE BLOKE WHO WROTE THIS CANT SPELL "THEIR"....stupid twat... and back to tonight's news..."
:eek2: (in other words, aren't there sometimes more important things?) *waits for massive argument to let rip* :nervous:

I can't say it bothers me much... we all make mistakes... Well, it doesn't bother me online because everyone makes typos and even when they dont, you cant usually tell if they meant to say that or not....OK i'm rambling...
