I'm having quite a dilemma. I'm going to be going to Napier Uni next year in Edinburgh. I live in Glasgow just now but I'm not sure if I should stay in Glasgow and commute through every day or move through to Edinburgh. If I move through, I'm not sure if I could afford it as I have a decent job which helps pay for my car which I only bought six months ago- I would have to give up my job. I can't sell my car coz of the finance agreement I have, so thats not an option for saving money. If I move then the rents gonna be about £340 if I live in Halls and £400 if I stay in private accommodation. Thats the other thing, I don't know if I want to stay in Halls as I'm going into 3rd year and that might be a bit sad staying in halls in 3rd year? What do you think? So people through your thoughts at me, I need help!!

Thank you:)

If it's at all possible to find a way to be able to afford to move then you should do it.

Not only would it be far more convenient in terms of getting to Uni, but it means you'll have tutors and the library closer to your flat.

It'll also make a World of difference to your social life.

Staying in halls in 3rd year is nothing..... You'll probably find a mixture of people from all years live in halls. It's a great way to meet a lot more people too.

    Go for it!

It sounds to me like you have already decided all the reasons why you should stay in Glasgow!

How long will it take you to commute?

Have you thought about becoming a lodger with a family or other students during the week and returning home at weekends?

Another suggestion would be to stay at home but if needed (eg. you have a lot of work) you could stay in a B&B in Glasgow.

yeah I've thought about maybe moving through to edinburgh during the week and coming back at weekends for work, but that would only work if I have fridays off then, i could work all day friday and saturday so that I don't lose out on any money that way plus i'd still have the bigger student loan for living away from home.
i kinda like the idea of living in Halls and although i'm gonna be in 3rd year i will only be 19. But then there's the other suggestion of moving in with other students in a rented flat, but I dunno where i could look to find people who are looking for flat mates. Hmm i've still got a lot to think about and I think i've got until 26th August to decide about the Halls so thats ages away. Thanx for your help so far:)

I wouldnt worry about fitting in or not, uni's really dont work that way, people just socialise with people they like, whatever age/background they are.

Plus your 19 and your going into the 3rd year?

Ok from what you have posted it seems a good idea for you to commute. Its great to have a job, a car etc and if its easy for you to commute do so.

Of course on the flip side of things there's always the problem of it being harder to make friends as you wont live in halls. But I'm sure this problem can be over come in other ways.

Good luck with uni life it may be a struggle at times but it is definitely worth it all :)
