Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Just saw on the news that British troops are engaged in combat with the Taliban forces. Has anyone else heard anything? How is it that the British Army is the first to go in?
Will some of Mr. Blairs constituents please enlighten me!

The newspapers today say its the 22 SAS regt in action near Kabul.

Why ? because our forces are the best, they will have been there for some days now.

Wanna know why are troops are there? Well, the Americans precision bomb everything and then our troops go in an actually kill people.
I guarantee that because of the fact we'll be used for mopping up the ratio of Brits dead compared to Americans will be much higher. Isn't it lovely to know that having better trained troops also means Ironically that ours are bound to die sooner. Unless of course the Americans crash a helicopter during training....we'll wait and see.

You guys are funny. There is US Marine Force Recon in the AO as well, they just aren't near the capitol so BBC didn't report it. I'm not trying to take credit away from you far from it. Thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with us on this one. We'll use our missles, but the targets have to be painted so we have teams on the ground engaging the enemy as well.

There was a good little bit in The Times contrasting the UK and US special forces.

The USA specialises in hit-and-run, mostly using helicopters. Get in there without being seen or heard, blow shit up, and try to get out. Becuase they don't go far on foot, their physical strength is mainly upper-body.

The UK, especially the SAS, adopt a "live-in" strategy. SAS teams will tab it from A to B rather than relying on any MT. Their overall fitness is much greater as a result. Plus, being proportionally smaller, they're more elite.

That would be SF (mainly army, a little air force). But I was refering to the Marine Force Recon teams. Unlike the Army's tactics the Department of the Navy (Navy and Marines) has a different tactic style more similar to the British. Force Recon teams are known to be out for weeks even months at a time with no support exept maybe a occasional air drop w/ batterys for radios and rations. Nothing against you, just letting you know there is more than one SF in the US and they have very different missions

Hang on !this all sounds like a load of kids discussing war comics in the playground.
If any of the above posters even thought about going to Afghanistan to fight theyd need to be wearing brown trousers.

At least two of the above posters have been in the army and have more right to comment on this than you will ever have.

Secondly, everything said on this thread can be found in todays papers. Perfectly normal to be discussing military issues when we are on the brink of WW3.

Stop trying to stir up trouble.

But of course your going for completely the wrong target!
If you wanted to really hit the Taliban and Al-Quaida you would need to hit their masters. Why bother with the monkey when the organ grinders standing next to it?
Step forward Saudi Arabia and Pakistan!
Theyve bankrolled them since day one for their own ends with weapons training and intelligence.
But this is all under wraps because both countries are US allies and Afghanistan is going to have to pay instead.

The assumption being that US/UK/'allies' have no intention of looking at these states later...

Have you ever wondered what threats have been issued to Pakistan which has made them turn against a fond friend?

Its not a hard thread to follow. If you read the post by soapbarbpy you will see that he said that the real villains behind all this are Saudi and Pakistan.Thats they 'THEY' BHH is referring to I believe.
