Pre-teen mag banned

High street chain store Woolworth's has banned a controversial new magazine aimed at pre-teen girls because of its "inappropriate" content. The publishers of Mad About Boys, which is aimed at nine to 12-year-old girls, have been accused of portraying them as sex objects.

The magazine, which features articles on fashion, make-up, parties and a problem page, has been criticised as irresponsible by Michele Elliott, director of children's charity Kidscape. Richard Maskell, marketing director of Mad About Boys, published by Planet 3, said his company had not yet approached Woolworth's about stocking the magazine.

When I first saw this in the local news last week I was original horrified to see the article, epecially when they were trying to match make with 16/17 year old guys, call me crazy but I can't work out the mentality that would cause an editor to let such articles to be released.

Then it really hit me, the whole censorship thing and how terrible it would be if the politicians and other figureheads decided to apply pressure on The Site to close because they didn't like what they saw <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/eek.gif"&gt; <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/eek.gif"&gt; <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/eek.gif">. This though horrified me, I was just wondering what everyone thought (DOM & KARLA & CO your opinions would, as always be great also).

I think the whole idea is fuckin disgustin.
The whole idea is to NOT encourage pre teens about sex.
Did u also know they are thinking of offering the mornin after pill to 9 year olds in a pilot area....say no more

A girl can become pregnant as soon as her periods start, you shud know that.
And now, because of better living conditions girls are reaching puberty earlier and earlier. I think this is a shame as it means they will miss out on childhood if they have hormones raging through their bodies.

ok call me old-fashioned and maybe a bit blind with my views, but WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WHEN 9YEAR OLD GIRLS GET PREGNANT. There is something just blatantly wrong with that. think about it. boys hit puberty later, and sure the youngest guy doin it must be about 12/13. but 9 year old!! pardon me for thinking there is something just a little bit wrong there!

We've gone a wee bit off topic, but I am very interested in what you say about 9 years geting pregnant, yes I am aware that as soon as a girl has sexually matured and started ovulating that she can become pregnant, but 9??? is there any statistic or proof that this is happening? I'm not denying the possibility just have not heard of such an occurrence.

I was really interested as well as hearing reactions to Woolies decision to ban the Mad About Boys magazine but also to here others reactions that in a hypothetical situation the site be closed down because of some politicaians or other beaurocrat, god forbid this ever happen to the greatest site in my favourites list <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/wink.gif"&gt; and the web!!!.
