Honey or Hunny

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Right, when your sweet on someone, do you call them hun/hunn or hon

i.e. Hunny or Honey, which one is the right way?

This is an argument Iam having with sara, who is very confused and referring to her sweety as hon, which doesnt sound right.

Someone cant be honey, but they can be hunny.

Iam right.

I don't use the word 'honey' unless I'm talking about what to put on my toast :p

But I think 'hunny' to apply to people? Maybe?

No, the only person in the world who spells honey 'hunny' is winnie the pooh. You spell honey like that, and therefore an abbreviation is 'hon'. Not 'hun'. God.

'Hon' is how it's spelled, 'hun' is how it's pronounced.

Thar be no such word as 'hunny'.

    Y'arr.

That sounds true. I must have used hun before though. Though I reckon that "hun" looks a lot sillier than "hon".

Though I would write honey anyway, because I don't go in for this text talk nonsense. Pah.

Nah, it's a term of endearment or affection, not some txt tlk bollocks! Just like, 'can you pass me that please hon?'.

    See?

*dances around* i'm riiiiiiiight, i'm riiiiiiiiiiight!

Yes but this is clearly about text talk, because if it's a verbal term of affection what difference would it make how it was spelt?

    Tra-la-la.

I say hun or hunny. If I'm talk about the type you put on toast then yes, I'd spell it properly - honey, but I'm not, I'm talking about a person so I've decided that it will be spelt hunny instead :p

I was talking to sanjeev on MSN and i said 'bye hon', and he started telling me it was wrong. So. Not text talk at all. And i say 'hon' too, i don't just use it online/in text messages.

And i would rather send two texts with words written out in full than use text talk. It confuses my little brain.

    What??!?!

I call everyone hun. Or babes. Or sexy. Well girls anyway. It's just a habit but, hun, not hon. Hi honey. Sounds very... "honey i blew up the kid" esque.

If I said it to anyone, I'd just sound patronising.

    Probably on purpose, though.

Exactly. Hon looks stupid because it is stupid. :p It's hun.

Honey is what you eat or whatever the fuck you do with that stuff. Actually, why the fuck do people call each other honey? From now on I'm calling people....cucumbers. :/ Awww, cucumber, it's ok.

They all sound the same regardless of how you spell them so why bother arguing over it?!

I's say hun, or honey, depending on whether I'm abbreiviating it, because hon looks wrong.
