Apparantly there is a campaign to start 2 minutes silence every 11 September to remember those lost in the attacks. What do you think of this?
The original silence is for Rememberence Day, 11 November, 11 am. No doubt in time to come that will go, because no one will remember the 1st World War.
Do other countries have silences, what about South Africa that has had a few football stadium tragedies where hundreds have died?
If there are too many silences we will be permenently silent! Wasn't there a silence for Diana, or is that just my imagination?
Thoughts please...
Oh yeah, and what do YOU think about in the silence? I try to think of the people who have died but my mind always wanders to stupid things...or is that just me?

WW1 was the most senseless slaughter of man in history. Its something that must never be repeated and thats why we remember those men.
I observe the Rememberance day silence every year. My mind usually wanders as well but I dont think that really matters so long as you know why you are keeping the silence.
I always start thinking about random things during a moment of silence. i think everyone does, either that or I'm a horrible person.
By the way,(just a random thought, but) I thought that it was really nice how people in the UK put flowers out at the US Embassy when all of this happened. Thanks.....
as for the moment of silence, I think it is a good idea, but i wonder if people will really do it after a few years.
No, I can't really see that working..can't see African tribes or Afghani mountain people being silent.
If we start having minutes silences for every tragedy that happens, we will end up spending most of the day in silence.
I think the only official silence we have is Remembrance Day on 11th November (for obvious reasons). But whilst 11th Sept was terrible, I don't think it is such a significant event that warrants a full silence, or a public holiday.
Perhaps Wall Street and the City should be silent for a minute, but only because the attacks affected them directly, and thus have more meaning there.
I remember we had the silence for Sept 11 at work whenever that was (December?), and it was quite important to us at the time, but it loses significance over time, and we should not try to flog a dead horse.
I think an event like the collapse of the Twin Towers will stay in the memory even without a national silence every year. It's not needed. And it's not as if anything significant has resulted - like world peace - in fact quite the opposite.
Personally, I will always go with 11/11, simply out of habit - and the fact that I've seen the WWI war graves and those regiments of headstones will always be with me
America should have the silence we shouldnt as not our country, and really none of our business! the only reason it is our business is cos we want america as an ally! and a bloody good job too cos they are a powerful force to be reckoned with!

they should have their silence or whatever they want to do,
it should be up to each country to decide what they want.
I agree with cae9 they should have the silence. we shouldnt
