How do?

E mails get from one computer to another? And texts too? I imagine loads of invisible e mails and texts flying through the sky to the mobile or PC it is supposed to be getting to?
Anyone know?
I've been curious for ages.

    Through other computers.

    Have a look here :p

Your computer says to another one (a server) have this mail.
The other computer gets the mail and sends it to the computer (server) at the other end.
Someone collects it from the server (e.g. a hotmail account gets it off the server).
    Then you can read it.

It's transferred using wires, fibre optics, and satellite links.

Jellygirl, the best place I've found for explaining things in plain english is How Stuff Works

Just use their search engine to look up email, or text messages, and it should explain all.
This link takes you directly to the pages about email.

I'm glad you are ok - you don't seem shy at all on the site but then again you can't tell what anyone is like unless they tell you. I think quite a few people can tell what sort of person I am now though don't you?:)

Well yes, if you just want to know the inner workings of SMTP.

Depends if she means in a more general sense of how do they get from one computer to another.
