Why?
1. Eating meat is bad for your health. Our bodies were not designed for eating meat. We have short intestines, whereas carnivores have long intestines. Our bodies compensate by slowing the digestive process, which causes colon cancer and all kinds of problems. Also, our bodies can not handle the huge amounts of saturated fats found in meat. This causes heart disease, strokes and is the biggest killer in the Western world.
Bigger than car crashes and murders.
When John Wayne died and they performed the autopsy, they found his colon weighed 49 pounds and was nine inches in diameter. This was due to a build-up of undigested red meat! So much for a stedy diet of Texas barbeque!
2. Meat production causes animals to suffer. Animals like pigs and cows are intelligent and know what is happening to them. If you must eat animals, eat fish. They don't even know they are alive. Don't eat sentient (self aware) beings.
3. Meat production is very destructive to the environment. It takes about ten times the natural resources to produce a pound of meat as it does a pound of vegtable protien.
Most of the destruction of rain forests, which is causing Global Warming and weather changes is done for meat production.

The human body is designed to be omnivorious (eat both vegi an meat) our conine teeth are specialy developed to rip and chew meat, and out stomach acids are way too powerful to be designed just to eat vegitables, if we evolved to be herbivors then we wouldnt be able to digest meat, like other herviour animals.
2. the fact that animals are sensient is disputed, they may or may not be, we cant tell, however the agreed test for being senient is wether wen the animal looks into a mirror it knows that the reflection is its own, not another animal, such animals as humans, dolphins, dog etc know this (thru scientific tests, i dont know the exact details) but as far as i know farm animals have not demonstrated this skill, yet.
3. The killing of animals is cruel, but if it wasnt would all vegans/vegitarians turn back? doubtful, to be brutally honest i dont think about how the pig was killed wen i eat my ham sandwich, i know animals shud be treated better, but its a result of the modern worlds demand for cheaper food, i try to eat only guarenteed fair treatment for animals meat wen i can, i rarely eat maccis cause i dont really like it.

As for other comments, I eat meat but I respect anyone who chooses not to, because of their beliefs. But don't try to tell me it's not good for me or not natural. Believe it or not vegans die too.
The human race has evolved over millions of years based on the nutrients garnered from the world around, be that water, vegetable, or yes even meat. We are omnivores, meaning we are designed to eat meat as well as veg., that's the natural way.
That doesn't defend the culling system though, which developed as a efficient way of killing these animals. That is a different argument though, and one I can symapthise with.
But as I said, don't criticise me for eating meat just because you choose not to.
This is nearly as moronic as the meat-haters posts.
Of course plants can be digested, we take nutrients from them. That is the point of digestion. We take from the food what we need and the shit or urinate to remove the waste from our bodies.
