contraceptive implant itching help!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I've had my implant in for about 2 months now. But the last 3 days my arm the area where the implant is has become really itchy and red.
is this normal?
My mom thinks it could just be acting as a foreign body.
I just wanted to know if anyone else has experience the same.

Thanks

Jodiie

I don't know what it is, but it really cannot hurt to let the doc have a look at it. If it's actually become infected I would really not waste any more time. If the reddishness has spread tomorrow it is high time to go to the ER, because then you are septic.

Maybe it is also red because you scratch at the ichiness, however. Keep an eye on it.

    Hey Jodie, welcome back

Sorry to hear you're having some issues with your implant. I've just picked up this advice from the Brook website:
If at any time you cannot feel your implant or it appears to have changed shape, or you notice any skin changes or pain around the site of the implant, then visit a doctor or nurse at your nearest Brook service, sexual health clinic/GP, and use condoms until you know that your contraception is definitely protecting you again.

Brook are a charity that specialise in sexual health advice so as Strubbles said, your best bet is to make an appointment and get this checked out for peace of mind asap and also use some extra contraception in the mean time.

Let us know how you get on :thumb:
