ID - is my only option a passport?

Out with parents last night for a meal and I wanted to order a cider and was asked for ID, which I didn't have. Many places appear to only accept a driving licence or passport.
Mum thinks I can get a provisional licence. I'm sure that because I'm banned from driving, I can't actually get a provisional?
Not everywhere accepts a citzen card either. I've had problems with a few places (chains) questioning it.

Can be really frustrating not being able to prove your age. I myself was asked to prove my age to buy plastic knives which was kinda annoying - really needed them for a party at uni!
Anyway, you might want to have a look at this page on theSite.org about proof of age - http://www.thesite.org/travelandfreetime/goingout/clubbing/proofofage
Also have a look at the national proof of age standards scheme website which might give you some more ideas about proof of age - http://www.pass-scheme.org.uk/
Hope this helps.
