Paranoid psychosis and migraines

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
... have wondered for a while if my symptoms are more to do with migraines than this so called ''paranoid illness''... done a bit of research on it but not come to any conclusion, more just a general wondering... because stuff like hallucinations, sensitivity to bright lights, mood changes, problems with speech etc are all interlinked with both illnesses, so... yeah just wondering what everyones thoughts are on this...?

I started off knowing that my visual abnormalities were part of some headache disorder, but when I had an MRI scan and consultations with doctors, everything seemed to shift from me thinking I was experiencing a purely physical problem, to oh right, there must be something wrong with my mind on a psychiatric level... and then my mind has basically tried to fill in the gaps so most the time i truly believe that i am picking up messages from people/spirits from a parallel universe/ the doctors can't stop this with drugs as antipsychotics have not done anything for the 'hallucinations' and 'illusions'/ they put thoughts in my head and have the ability to make me angry and agitated, which is a lot/ they can take thoughts away/ satellites watch me on cloudless days so i don't go out/ they put trackers in my blood when i was in hopsital etc etc. Anyway what do YOU think? :chin:

    Hi Nutter

I can not really give you an answer as I don't know a lot in this area of mental health :chin:

Has your doctor said anything more about the migraines and hallucinations and how they could be linked?

Can you elaborate more on this?

Not really, they just presumed from the start it was mental illness and humoured me when i had an MRI scan. The neurologist was rather nasty towards me, like i was wasting his time. :(

Feel so messed up, been hyper and feeling like someone is touching me and it makes me jump but no one is there, and this morning in bed i was kicking at the end of the bed because i thought there were big red spiders crawling all over my legs. I'm actually really scared and I don't think they realise how much.. i used to experience odd things and just shrug it off but now it really gets to me.

Hey nutter, sorry to hear you've been feeling so scared *hug*

It must have felt really horrible when you felt fobbed off by the neurologist :(

There's some good info here about hallucinations: http://www.hearing-voices.org/voices-visions/

They also have a forum for peer support specifically for talking about experiences like yours, might be worth checking out to talk to people who can really relate to what you're going through and to find out how they cope: http://hvn.forumatic.com/

Let us know how it goes if you do decide to try it.

I wonder if you feel they're getting worse then do you feel able to let someone like your GP know at this stage?

Another option which I don't know if you've tried (apologies if you already have) would be the mental health charity Sane who we work really closely with. They have a helpline and email service so it could be worth submitting what you have here to them and seeing what advice they can offer you?

    Here are the deets:
