Like Fiend said, if you don't have the operation then you won't get better. I know you're nervous but remember its a few hours, which will hopefully make your life a lot better.

Edit: I don't know why my message has a thumbs down at the top, I didn't put it there and it won't go away...

What operation are you having? People might be able to give you a little bit more support if they have more of an idea what's going on. I'm not sure if the operation will make you better or if its an investigation but even that is a step to make you better :)

Can you identify any particular aspects that make you scared? It's not nice having operations but they can be alright in my experience. Depends what is being done.

Operations are nothing to worry about. Just see it as going to sleep for a few hours (or how ever long the operation will be going on for)

Operations can be a pretty scary thing, but so can being ill. You just need to be brave and go through with it to get better. I know it will be tough but it will be better for you in the long run. When they use the anaesthetic, you won't know about anything at the time. Sometimes the biggest and scariest bit about an operation, isn't the operation itself but is in-fact the worrying about it. Be brave and I'm sure you will be fine :)

    Hi Heather
It's normal to be a bit apprehensive about having an operation. Have you spoken to any of your doctors about how you're feeling? I'm sure they can offer you some support.
Also, have a read of this NHS guide to having an operation - it will probably answer lots of your questions.
    :)

It'll be ok, us on the site wouldn't lie to you ;)

Surgery can be a scary thing, especially if it is your first. The worst part is the anticipation. From now until then, just do everything you can to keep calm and not think about it. Has your doctor given you any stress relief tips or coping mechanisms to do until then?

Once the day comes, you'll arrive at the hospital, the'll check you in, you'll get a relaxer, they'll put you under (I'm assuming, its a full under procedure) and the next thing you know, you'll be waking up from a very relaxing nap. You might get something to drink and eat and you'll get to chill for a bit. All of the scary bits will be over and you'll be better than you were when you came in :)

Heather, have you considered just updating one of your old posts rather than always putting up a new one?

That way it's easier for people to follow what's going on in your life.

That's what I was just about to come and say - and plus if you have one thread, then you have a specific place to go back to and read all the good advice and good wishes that are being sent to you, which will reinforce them.

    Hi heather :)

What Scary Monster and Purple_roo are suggesting is a good idea so I have merged your two threads :)

You could bookmark this one or add it to your favourites so you can easily find it.

That way, each time you want to post about seeing the specialist or about the doctor you can update us here and it will help everyone to keep track of what's going on so that they can help you better.

You can still start new threads about new topics as well.

    How does that sound?

Best of luck with the operation, Heather *hug*'s!
Hope the operation goes well, operations can be daunting, weather minor or major, but it's best just to be open minded about it, and remember were always here for you! *hug*'s!

Best of luck with it once again,

    Best wishes

We can offer emotional support without knowing all the details of the operation.
