Long Distance Relationships - do they work?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Basically i have a sister that we are at the moment no longer speaking terms, if she wants to speak to me we will be 12,000 miles away, not knowing of each other for 17 years and havent even seen each other.

Do long distance relationships work?
Will speaking on skype and seeing each other once a year be enough?
Would it be easier to forget each other and have our own lives?

As long as you both are willing to put some effort into keeping in touch, then yes, it can work. xx

because it is a sister, and not a romantic relationship, then yes it most certainly can. it would be far better, i believe, to establish some sort of contact with her than none at all. im presently in a similar situation, but it has not gone as long.. about 30 months ago, i moved to Australia from America and have not seen any of my family since. the only family i have any interest in seeing again are my brother and sister. internet contact with them has been hugely helpful to us in maintaining some form of a relationship

    yes they work.

it all depends on how much you love and willing to sacrifice.
