    Hi Paul,
Obviously it's hard to see a new person after you've gotten used to and worked so much with your previous therapist. Have you tried explaining your situation to the service provider?
If you're feeling nervous about that - perhaps it would be a good idea to bring someone trusted with you?
There's a lot of information about other avenues you can go down here on TheSite.org.

    Keep us posted :)

    Hi paul

I think the gp isn't saying that you can't be helped but that if you're drinking heavily this is something that will impact on your wellbeing. The drinking goes hand in hand with the other problems you're experiencing, have you ever had any help with the drinking?

    dp

Being in a position where you know you want some help is a good place to be. From what you've said though, the relationship with your GP isn't that great. Changing GPs is definitely an option so if you think it will help then just go for it. You can also request to see a different GP at the same surgery if you like. Others here will definitely understand what it's like to have a GP that you don't get along with.

It's important to find someone that you feel takes you seriously and that you can be honest with. Acknowledging that you may have messed up by missing appointments in the past but agreeing to commit this time round might help too.

Most towns and boroughs have a drug and alcohol service and many of them offer open access or drop in times when anyone can attend without an appointment for an assessment. Depending on the outcome you might be given a referral or offered some treatment. You should be able to find your local service using our Local Advice Finder - otherwise you can give your local council a call and ask them. It sounds like you've had various support in the past so apologies if this is something you've already tried.

You talked about some of the things you don't enjoy, like going out and socialising. Aside from the alcohol and cigarettes is there anything that you're interested in? Finding some distraction and something to take your attention away from drinking and smoking, even if it's only for short periods of time could help. Do you have anyone that you can talk to like a mate or someone in your family? Any hobbies that you've lost track of that you could pick up again?

There are plenty of folk here willing to try and help and to listen when you just need to get things off your chest.. hang in there :thumb:
