Link (again from my favourite feminist online magazine, one day I will stick to broadsheets ;p)
There isn't much back story to how this film lead the south korean goverment to change their sex crime laws, but it did make me think.
Does popular culture have an effect on our law and policy making here in the UK, and if so is that good or bad? And if it doesn't should goverments take popular culture into account when making laws?
My perspective:
I am a big supporter of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, and subcultures are a big part of our culture in Britain. I think that in that sense, popular culture should be taken into account when looking at for example hate laws, to cover lifestyle choices and appearance. I'm not sure where I stand on the goverment making knee-jerk reactions because of popular culture influence.
