valentines day

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
what are your opinions on this? curious to find out if im the only sceptical and unromantic person on thesite. I feel its a commercial thing where people seem to go a bit loopy buying gifts. i think if you love someone you shouldnt need a special day to show it, it should be part of every day.

i'm not fussed about it to be honest  i think its more of a thing for the kids? i don't know. maybe i'm getting old and grumpy  i used to get really upset when i was single on valentines day and in the past, when i've been with someone, i've made a big deal out of it. i now realise though that it is a commercial thing. its just a way of companies making money.

my boyfriend shows me that he loves me all the time just by the things he does for me. i don't need him to spoil me on a hallmark holiday to know that!

me and my boyfriend have decided to just get each other a nice card this year. normally we buy each other a present but we both have better things to spend our money on...like our holiday to thailand 12 days later!!!! we'll cook a nice meal and stuff but we do that all the time anyway, haha! will probably get a bottle of wine or something to go with it too eh?

im a teen and really couldnt care less..

Think i lost totally intrest the year that i got dumped on v'day
but i know my boy'f is really into it, so i try to get him a little present.
tends to stress me out a bit worrying about it.

Who the hell invented valentines day?!?!

    I like it!

I don't go ott with presents or whatever. We tend to get a card and something rather small - we've had £5 limits before. But we tend to have a bit of fun, make a little bit more of an effort and enjoy the day :)

I've never cared for it tbh. Like others said if someone loves you, they shouldnt need a commercialised day to show it, just because its "the most romantic day of the year".

I've never had a valentines day with a boyfriend but i would be happy just spending it like any other day than making a big deal

First valentines day I've had a (proper) boyfriend. Don't think we'll get to see each other on the day though, stupid school play :grump:
But the weekend before will be good :d

i like it :) it's not that me and my boyfriend aren't nice to eachother all the time anyway, it's just that it's a nice day to be particularly loved up :p

I'm ok with it. We don't buy presents or cards or owt, it's just an excuse to think about each other a little more. We normally sit down and take the time to have a proper meal together.

We also do little cutesy things that you'd get a bit sick of if they were all year round. Like one year Mr K made me sandwiches to take to work, which he often does, but when I got them out i found he'd cut them into heart shapes. Cute, but if he did things like that all year round I'd be well over it.

    Awwwwwww :D

I am, in theory, going to be seeing Boy the weekend before. I've bought him a card that reminded me of him (not a cutesy rubbish one, basically), and I'm writing a little letter to put in it, because Valentine's isn't a big deal to me, but we've had a bit of a shit week or two (my fault) so I want to make him feel as special as he is .

I think its a great way to test the water with someone you really like, it makes it easy to have a kind off no ties date.
I don't think its any more than a bit of fun though, there is no need to go over the top just a nice card and a token present would be nice.

Of course some of us are still waiting to be swept off our feet :grump:

If i had a girlfriend i'd probably buy the usual shit and say Valentines Day was worth it but as im single (and grumpy) atm i'd probably say its a waste of time!

I'm in two minds about it. I love the day as an excuse to have a nice steak and a nice bottle of wine, and to spend a bit more time doing stuff that we want to do. However I don't like all the commercial side of it, with the way the cost of flowers and restaurant dinners sky-rockets whilst the beauty salons always do discount deals on a back sack and crack.

it's harmless and a bit of fun. companies are going to cash in on anything and everything, you can either choose to buy into that idea or not.

personally, a pizza and a snog and i'm done.

I've always hated it even when I have been in a relationship. It can be nice to just use it as a day to get/do something nice for each other. But the commercial bullshit makes me cringe. And the endless lovesongs that are everywhere just reminds me that I'm lonely and single, bah humbug.

Though I despise the commercialisation of Valentine's Day, I for one would heartily welcome the commercialisation of Steak and Blowjob Day.
