Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,324 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi, seen as I recieved really helpful advice on my career, thought Id ask a friend of mine is looking to do a real hard days graft rather than stay in an office. Anyone know how he can kick start his career in either getting a trade behind him or working on the docks etc?? Thanks x

Most manual labour is governed by the gangmaster's authority and on each building site there will generally be a gang master/site foreman. Generally you need to apply in person as the work is very casual/cash in hand. If you're good at your job you may be taken on permanantly.

I know someone who builds roads and has managed to get their licence for driving the massive dumper trucks which means he will be taken on permanantly and gets paid a stack load.

Might also be worth trying sites like Balfour Beatty and other civil engineers.
