struggling with long term conditions

i am 18 and have mutiple long term conditions and disabilty, i have asthma which is turning worse, eczema, anaemia, weak bladder, nueritis and scoliosis and allergies, normally i cope well with my health but currently struggling as most is uncontrolled, my asthma is poorly controlled and haveing diffuculty breathing and chest pain, asthma nurse did not do anything despite she should hear me struggling to breath, and doctors are being no use.

i dont have half my meds that i had before as they need reviewing and changing, like anaemia not controlled and easily getting tired. i am also suffering with pain in back everyday even with physio and struggling to walk even though i get out. i dont know how to get the doctors to listen to me ans start sorting out my health, am thinking of changing doctors but is further away, dont know? my doctors were so much helpful back in home town.

i am always a postive person despite my health, and never feel sorry for myself and getting my life back on track after being housebound. but finding it bit hard and fustrating mainly because of doctors and nothing is being controlled but feel like i am coping with all the health problems, treatments and pain as well as i could be

i also have a big worry of going back to work as scared will make my health worse or that i wont be able to do the job as well as i want, but i am currently looking for voulteering and apprenticship as want to have normal life as possiable

Firstly, is there another GP practice nearby? If so then you might want to consider changing if you aren't happy with the level of control over your various conditions.

The other option is to talk to your GP about concentrating on one aspect at a time and getting some control over each, but over time.

LTC can be very difficult to control because they tend to impact on each other plus they will have an effect on you emotionally. I'm sure none of that is news to you though, as you live with them every day.

Finally, are there any specialist nursing team supporting you, ouside of the practice, or is it just the GP?

Okay, it sounds to me like you really need to change GP, based on what you have written. You clearly aren't happy with the service you are getting and you have the right to change GP.

Many areas have specialist community nursing services, particularly for things like asthma and continence and it might be worth finding out if such services exist locally to you.

Make sure you talk through with your GP what you are expecting though. Make it clear that you have a plan, which he needs to help with, which will give you more control over your life.

Remember that a GP is there to help you, not to direct you. It's isn't their decision over what treatments you get or over how your treatment is planned. All they can give you is their professional opinion but treatment is always, always at your discretion.

Ultimately it is you that has to live with your conditions, it is you that knows how you react best to any treatment and not the medical profession. Sometimes they forget that.

    Good luck.

yes doctors do seem to forget that i am the one living with it, so i know my body well and when my meds are not working.
i am thinking of changing doctors but the one i want to change to is further away and already struggle to get to the doctors through lack of money, and wont be able to afford to go atall when i ave moved as will have to pay to get to hospital and pay the bills so i am worried about my health getting worse

but hoping to book a appiontment soon and my support worker said she will come with me so can get everything sorted as i am no good in doctors, i go in with a list of things troubling me and come out with like nothing sorted as scared to tell them
