iv got something stuck in my eye, im not sure what but i rubbed it and now its stinging so bad. my eye is all bloodshot and red and constantly watering, what should i do? it hurts to blink. i know you're probably meant to wash it out with water, bathe it but i tried that and it hurts too much! it really stings i was nearly crying! should i try and battle through the pain and try and bathe it again, even though it hurts more?

Try crying! The tears might flush whatever it is out :)

Cup of boiled ( not boling:) ) water, dissolve a level teaspoon of salt in it. Thoroughly flush your eye trying to keep the eye open. Try lying down, with a towel under your head, cup in one hand and use your thumb and index finger of the other to keep your eyelids apart then flush it with the saline solution.

Try not to rub it, if it's something hard like grit you could scratch the lens or tear blood vessels.

Try blinking a few times, I know it sounds wierd but it will flush what ever in your eyes out. Or you could always get it checked making sure you have yet not got an infection on it because if you this could be very seriouse.

Big *hug* s for you right now! Hows it doing at the moment Firey?

If its still bad, I really would think about getting it checked. My optician told me that if I any had any problems with my eyes to get it seen to straight away, either at the opticians (if you're a regular then they might let you just pop in quickly, otherwise you may be able to book an appointment somewhere) or at a walk-in centre. So when there was a problem with my eye, that is what I did :) - Really pleased I did go as it was something that needed quick treatment.

Oh, and I was told to take ibuprofen for the pain!

try not to rub it is an exilent peace of advice. i've had stuff in my eye loads of times, and i usually just use a towel and rub it over my eye and it goes away.

i wouldn't want you to have an infection either, so if it does get worse or it does not get any better through out the day, then i would strongly advise getting it checked.

let me know how it works out for you!

I've gone to an optician about an eye injury before and they weren't much help. I lived in London at the time and they referred me to the wonderful Western Eye Hospital on Marylebone Road.

If you continue to have trouble with the eye, I'd recommend a specialist eye hospital, if there is one near you, or A&E.
