how do you do it?
How do you customise them (i.e with your name)

    Avatars are usually around 80 x 80, perfectly square. We are quite unusual in that our avatars can go up to 400x60 and are therefore banners. TheSite.org is the only forum I've seen that allows that. You need something like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro to make yourself a graphic, or using GIMP if you want to go the free route. Most avatars are based on existing pictures, like my Disney one, so the purpose of the art program in this context is to make existing picture(s) presentable as an avatar.
