He is against the illegal immoral war of aggression in Afghanistan and that is what counts most!

Have a go at the guys in the armed forces who haven't got the guts to speak out against the war!

Pretty judgemental there . How can you be certain to his mental state?

You're wasting your time trying to debate with him. Search for threads where the Username "Steelgate" is involved and you'll see why. He rarely engages in debate, just posts links to other sites which he thinks back up his argument.

Failing that you could search for the names Stealgate, Stea1gate, Harlequin or Rockwell. It's all the same person.

    He'll get banned again soon.

Possibly I am judgemental. however, after dealing with a number of real cases of PTSD I'm unconvinced that going off to Australia and SE Asia backpacking, joining the anti-war protests and when charged deciding to claim you had PTSD fits the pattern. The court martial agreed...

And I'm judgemental because I've dealt with PTSD and it belittles the real suffering it causes brave men for him to use it to try and justify his behaviour. I and hundreds of thousands like me have gone to nasty, shitty places and not all have returned, we didn't break our oaths or let down our colleagues.

What job is that killing and maiming people in Afghanistan? The soliders who refuse to speak out against the illegal Afghan war are all war criminals with blood on their hands!

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/13/afghanistan-uk-soldier-deaths

Interesting article from an ex-SAS soldier and trainer of the Afghan army.

No amount of 'surges' are going to stop this - you can't bomb culture out of people.

How far it its generalisible is anyone's guess, but the indication that the some saw the Russians as preferable to the Americans is alarming.

On what basis is the Afghan conflict "illegal"?

This might be a good counter argument

It is totally illegal because Afghanistan did not attack America! And international law forbids any state from waging aggresive war!

Not one 9/11 hijacker was from Afghanistan! The Tablian offered to hand over Osama Bin Laden the claimed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks if they were given evidence of his planning the attacks by America. America refused to show any evidence to the Afghan government so they refused their request to hand him over.

Therefore was no excuse for war against Afghanistan at all as the Afghan government was not being unreasonable. Further more under international law what to do in the wake of the 9/11 attacks was up to the United Nations not the USA.

Also in any war adequate precautions have to be taken to avoid civlian casualties but America used cluster bombs and depleted uranium shells which caused thousands of unnecessary civilian deaths and injuries.

We are there at the invitation of the government, so cant really be a war can it.

Also not that many countries recognised the legitimacy of the taliban rule.

A puppet government set up by the USA. 90 per cent of the population of Afghanistan want all allied troops to leave the country immediatly. That is why there is growing resistance to the presence of allied troops in Afghanistan which is getting stronger by the day!

The Afghan war was totally illegal because Afghanistan did not attack America on 9/11! It is illegal to wage a war against a country which has not attacked your country first.

Are you sure it is not Attorney General Lord Goldsmith (circa July 2002), and you are really Tony Blair ?

The United Nations! Under international UN agreements it is illegal for a country to wage war against another country unless it has been attacked first.

Afghanistan has never attacked America therefore America was wrong to declare war on Afghanistan in 2001.

The group that attacked America in 9/11 Al Qaeda is a loose network of muslim terrorist spread across the world not a country. You cannot fight a terrorist network by singling out one country like Afghanistan and attacking it.

So, under which court and which law.

It alright trotting out the same accusation each time I mention this, Stealgate, but you haven't actually answered. I know what the UN Charter says but you haven't answered the question.

Under the international criminal court! The same court that tried Slobodon Milsovic from war crimes in Bosnia! This court: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Criminal_Court

The politicians who are responsible for starting the Afghan war are war criminals!

That court was created in July 2002 and can only try cases where the crime was committed on or after that date.

When did the war in Afghanistan begin? October 2001

Millosevic was tried for war crime committed in Bosnia from 1992 until late 1995! So cases before 2002 can be tried there.

By the war remember all you people who support the war in Afghanistan have blood on your hands! Tens of thousands of innocent Afghan civilians are being killed and horrifically maimed because of you people!

From the link which you provided:
The court came into being on 1 July 2002 — the date its founding treaty, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, entered into force — and it can only prosecute crimes committed on or after that date. The official seat of the court is in The Hague, Netherlands, but its proceedings may take place anywhere.

Milosevic was not tried in that court. His case came under the juristriction of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

Um, Goldsword, you do realise that it isn't just MoK's war? He isn't personally and single handedly 'killing and horrifically maiming tens of thousands of innocent Afghan civilians.'

Why not start withdrawing them right now? It would save a lot more lives on both sides and billions of pounds too. Instead our politicians are so stupid they say we have to fight a disasterous immoral war for another four and a half years. Why?
