whiplash?

exposedexposed Posts: 31 Boards Initiate
hi guys,

has anyone actually been diagnosed as having suffered whiplash?

i was involved in a road accident on friday (a car went into the back of mine at 40mph while i was stationary waiting at a roundabout). my girlfriend works in insurance and was jokingly poking about later saying "you've probably got whiplash". thought nothing of it... little shaken up as expected but there we go.

cut to monday morning and i wake up in what i can only describe as excruciating pain. the back of my neck has swollen a little and i have no motion in any of my neck muscles. my left leg is literally dead and im struggling to walk.

have a GP appointment booked for tomorrow (weds) to check me over.

S/he may refer you to physiotherapy. As well as offer something for the pain.

I'm surprised you didn't get medical attention at the time! 40mph on stationary is a hell of an impact. I got hit from behind at about 5-10 mph, and I was sore for a good couple of days.

Yes, you could well have whiplash and you should definitely see a doctor!

Yeah I've had whiplash. Accident was in the morning and I was absolutely fine until late in the evening when my neck started to hurt. I had my neck in a brace for about 6 months if I remember correctly and had to have physio.

hey, didnt know if this thread would be alive still.

yep, went to the GP this morning who pretty much 99.9% confirmed i had whiplash. he sent me to casualty to get some x-rays done on my neck (just to confirm i hadnt broken anything) and to check my left knee which is now in massive pain from dashboard impact.

specialist at hospital confirmed the whiplash, gave me some codydramol and anti inflammatories to cover me for the next fortnight or so.

i'm going to have my first physio session in approx 3 weeks. as for my knee i've got a muscle tear and some tissue damage and massive bruising but no breaks or massive chips anywhere which is good.

I had whiplash from a car accident that didn't start to hurt until three days later I think. Make a not of all your discomforts and expenses due to it, for insurance purposes. I assume you've told them?

yeah, luckily my girlfriend works in car insurance so she has schooled me on what to record etc.

no offence to whiplash, but i never thought it would be this bad. grr

    Wow, totally forgot about this.

Well, it was whiplash. It took about 3 months to restore some movement to my neck and about 6 months for the pain to subside.

Now I'm pretty much okay, I have lost a little bit of a movement on the one side of my neck.

    Two grand in compensation! Yay

That's actually not very much for permanent damage, but still better than nothing. Hope everything turned out fine.

I think it is quite a lot of money for that type of injury.

Could be loss of earnings and other things in with it to.

Some people I've spoken to have said it was a lot of money for the injury, some have said it was a small amount.

I wasn't ambulance chasing etc, I just got my insurance company to sort it all out. It cleared what was left of my overdraft and bought me a new bass guitar so I'm happy.
