You stand.

A poem/song written by me for a very dear friend who really lost her way while going through something truly awful. This was written around the time she transitioned, from feeling so defeated and so beaten, to regaining a sense of worth, to finding her strength, again.

You stand.

On the floor, on your knees,
Salty tears fall down your cheeks.
Your soul feels empty, and your heart is sore,
With the nagging feeling, that there should have been more.

Out of body, and out of mind,
You see yourself through blinded eyes.
The strength you had, feels so lost now,
It can be found, I'll show you how.

If you can stand, then you can walk,
If you can still make sounds, then you can talk.
The weak will pass, the strong will come,
If you can walk, then you can run.

Get up, stand up, get off your knees,
Remember that last time you ran?
Rise tall, head up, I'm asking, please,
Please baby,
Can you stand?

In the silence, in the dark,
In a cold, abandoned park.
That bench you sit on, the calm it brings,
But that nagging feeling, it rings and rings.

Out of feelings, out of fear,
Your hear yourself through deafened ears.
They tell you to reach, deep within yourself,
On your own you know you fail, so afraid to ask for help.

But if you can stand, then you can walk,
If you can still make sounds, then you can talk.
The weak will pass, the strong will come,
If you can walk, then you can run.

Get up, stand up, get off your knees,
Remember that last time you ran?
Rise tall, head up, I'm asking, please,
Please baby,
Can you stand?

You knees are trembling, Your soul is hurt,
Your body feels so weak.
You lie there still, with little will,
To get out from under those sheets.

But one by one, feet touch the ground,
Steadying yourself with my hand.
It's hard, I know, but you're strong, I know,
And slowly you rise,
You stand.
