I like coleslaw and cheese separately. I've never tried it as a sandwich filling, though I think I ought to. Is the cheese grated or sliced? I presume it's cheddar?

I'm going to try to make my own sandwiches tomorrow as I read the pack of the canteen sandwiches I had today and they had 477 calories and weren't even that nice!

I mostly go with the classics. A combination of cheese, tomato, lettuce, salami or ham etc, mustard...

i have it grated, then it can combine with the coleslaw which so does NOT taste like snot :p

Packaged sandwiches can be shockingly high in calories! I don't know how they manage to cram that many in.

2 slices of bread, butter/marge and mayo is 300 calories easy.

Boo to that. They do manage to make prawn mayo sandwiches for less than that though so, it can be done.

Thanks Rachael. The grated cheese will be easy to mix with coleslaw, so I'll give that a shot :-)

Yeah Randomgirl - it's very easy for a sandwich to pack 477 cal. What was the filling you chose for the 477-cal sandwich? I pick a cheese / ploughman's sarnie off the shelf and they can easily be 600 cal.

Another filling to add to this thread - smoked bacon and Stilton. The bacon -has- to be smoked though!

    Lettuce, ham, cheese and pickle.
Fish fingers with about ten times the usual amount of butter.
    Boiled eggs and salad cream.
Chicken or egg mayo with bacon (and cheese if it's chicken). Om nom.
