Mouse recommendations please?

I currently use a laptop; but am having problems using the touchpad and would like a mouse instead.

I do have a mouse; but the wire is too long. (it's fine if I'm at my desk; but not when sat downstairs)

I've had a quick look online; but there are too many to choose from. I would rather not spend more than £15 and don't want one with a huge receiver. (we have one of them somewhere)

Razer mice are very good.

If you grab a standard Logitech, most receivers look like this these days. When plugged into a laptop, you see it minus the USB metal contact. So small.
