Dresses for a wedding or two

I have two weddings to go to this summer, and me and my dress knowledge is well, lacking.

I really don't know what sort of style to go for. Generally, does it have to be very formal? Or summer-y? Plain or patterned?

If anyone has any pictures/websites of the sort of dress that'd be even better!

And can I put a cardigan with it? And will it look bad if I keep my Reading 2009 band on... just I can't get it off... and that and my watch helps hide/ draw attention away from scars. Hmmm... I remembered why weddings are a hassle! ha ha

I would go and buy a pretty dress or outfit that you like and feel comfortable in as long as its not indecent or scruffy you can get away with pretty much anything as long as you team it with nice shoes and a jacket or cardigan - you might also want to investigate if hats are required as well - not usually these days but you never know.

Is it for all day, or just night do? For the actual ceremony, doesn't have to be mega formal, but I'd go for pretty/elegant and demure - short hemlines or boobies on show are not really appropriate. For evenings it's generally a bit more relaxed. A lot can depend on the actual wedding, though.

Cardigans are fine, or something like a shrug or a wrap if you want to cover up a bit.

Generally for weddings a dress, smart shoes and smart accessories, and a smart plain cardi do the trick. Unless you're pratcically a bridesmaid doesn't need to be a monsoon type dress.

Both are for during the day, not yet sure if there are evening plans. One wedding I am "just" a guest, the other I have to do a reading for, so I suppose something a bit smarter for that.

Oh yeah, I forgot about shoes. Ah, I can't wear heals... this will be fun!

My budget is bigger if I can wear the same dress to both... otherwise it's a tight budget, what with me being a student and having to pay for a month in Canada! Ooops!

It's a good job that ballet flats are in fashion then, they'll do just fine, you don't have to wear heels.

That's beautiful. I wouldn't wear it to a wedding though - the bride might not be too happy! Better to steer clear of anything that close to white or cream in colour.

I bought a beautiful blouse from coast for one of my sisters many wedding ceremonies.

Depends how much of a bridezilla you're dealing with, too. I didn't give a shit what people wore to my wedding, but some brides might have a full scale panic attack on seeing someone wearing anything informal/raunchy/ivory!

Thanks guys now there are too many decisions! ha ha!

I am liking the price of the New Look dresses :thumb: but think I prefer the style of the others (yes, the expensive ones), I think a plainer one will go better though, maybe. Think I shall go shopping some stage in the next few weeks- definately take a trip to Coast and New Look though.

Guess I have to do a bit of :chin: !

I think you can get away with whatever dress you like at weddings these days. I've worn dresses that come to mid-thigh, but as long as you accessorise them well, wear good shoes, and it all suits your style then just wear what you feel comfortable in.

I tend to cover up with a nice cardigan in summer or a good quality blazer in winter.

In fact the last dress I wore to a wedding was the one Rhianna is wearing in this pic!

thanks guys. just wondered because of the main colour being white, but i guess there are a lot of black dots! and it sits above my knee. for one of the weddings this shouldn't be a problem- i'll get a second dress for the other

I'm going to a wedding this weekend. I don't know th person and it's only the evening do. I'm thinking of wearing jeans and heels and a shirt but, would that be really rude? Hmmmn, but comfy though.
