What about - in a reversal of roles - a woman(in her 30's, just to paint a useful picture) who had slept with over 80 men?

Would we consider her to be confident, stud, legend - or the other stuff?

What about a man - also in his 30's - who'd slept with 3 women?

80 men would seem outrageous ( and greeedy ) to be honest and i would think that she was slightly on the loose side.

A man with 3 women probably has confidence issues or maybe just meet miss right early on.

To me it'd depend on the story...

If this woman, had actually been a home wrecking slut, then ofcourse, id take a dim view to it maybe.

And the guy, same, if his story was, when he was young, was confident with females, had a few realtionships, and then found the love of his life, then id be like, well done go you.

To me, it's more about whats happened, than how many times..

Man goes to strip club - he's a bit of a perv.

Woman goes to a strip club - she's having a laugh.

    Woman grabs a man's dick - she's a bit cheeky

    Man grabs a woman's boobs - he's a sexual pervert

Goes both ways. Don't judge a whole life on 1 trait.

    Thought id throw this in for debate, as we all probably know;

Guy sleeps with 10 woman = Complete stud, what a beaut, legend.
Woman sleeps with 10 guys = Whore, slag, loose etc.

Anyone know why the stigma surrounding that, is so accepted today?

Put it this way. If there's a key that opens many locks, it's called the master key. If there is a lock that is opened by many keys, it's not a very good lock.

    All clear now?

Do you think i am being niave then, it just seems a lot.

If you work that out between the ages of 18 and 35 then i reckon thats an average of one new lover every ten weeks ( correct me if i'm wrong maths is not my strong point )

Doug, as usual, has the answer to most of life's pertinent questions: http://open.spotify.com/track/0UGewz2lKYhKDOMIRRRgy8 :D

About 1:50 it gets to the point.

While that did make me laugh, I would hope you're not serious ;).

I really hate the terms slut, whore, easy, all that crap. As long as she's being safe and it's consensual, who the hell cares how many people a girl has slept with? Ohnoes, she's having fun, lock her away!!!!!

Then again I have become spectacularly passionate recently about people using words without thinking about what they really mean ('retard' being my current pet hate).

Well that makes me a total whore then.

I have always really hated the expression 'that's so gay', ever since I was a kid. Which of course lead to all the kids telling me I was so gay. Ahh, to be young again

I would just like to throw in my own thoughts, which are that labels are thrown about by the jealous or insecure and that the number of people you sleep with doesn't define you in my book. When I'm with a person I care about their intentions towards me and me alone. As long as they are not going to put me in a place of jeopardy, sexually or otherwise, then their past is their past and it's of no relevance to me.

Oh, and I haven't increased my number since yesterday (just to get the thread back on track) but I'm hoping to soon depending on certain outcomes! :p

This whole talk of people being 'easy' or whatever reminds me of a period last year when I had a number of partners in fairly quick succession and my best mate got really uppity about it and said I was behaving like a slag.

I wasn't sure I wanted a relationship as I'm going abroad but I did want to have a healthy sex live so I had sex with a few friends of mine, everyone knew the score and we always used protection. It was actually through blurring the boundaries with my friends that I ended up being with my current boyfriend. Does this make me a slag? That word actually just reminds me of the waste product from removing iron from it's ore, but hey.

I certainly didn't comment when said friend who had had a go at me had drunken sex with a mutual friend and didn't use a condom, but the irony did strike me.

There is also the assumption that if a woman sleeps with a few people she has low self-esteem, whereas a man would have high self-esteem.

    which is often true!

I think the slag / stud thing is bullshit though.

ha, one of christina aguilera's songs comes to mind...

"its a common double standard of society
they guy gets all the glory the more he can score
while the girl can do the same but yet you call her a whore
i dont understand why its okay
the guy can get away with it, the girl gets named"

i dont even think of it as something even remotely up for discussion. someone else's sex life is private and i have no right to judge them.

I've just spent about ten minutes typing up a small essay detailing my thoughts on people's perceptions about the numbers of sexual partners others have had, only to realise I don't think I really agree with myself. :D

Anyway, this is a bit off-the-cuff (slight off-topic too):

I remember being 13 or 14-years-old and spending a lot of time being dictated to about how I should feel about sex. Sex in general, but especially your first time, was held up as a sacrosanct event, which should only ever be performed by two people with deep feelings for each other under exacting circumstances: the stars being in correct alignment and all the correct sacrifices made, presumably. By the time I was standing in my birthday suit about to have sex for the first time I was fit to faint because of my perceived gravity of the event. I suspect some of this early induction to sex lends itself to people still being hung up about sex years on, particularly when judging other people's sexual history. Or maybe I just had particularly bad advice. :D

I wish 28-year-old me could have had fifteen minutes with 16-year-old me to tell him "Take a breath, dude. From the age of 17 onwards, your going do some making love, some having sex and some downright-filthy-fucking. Be safe, and don't fret about any of it. It's going to be amazing and silly-looking and often-times embarrassingly brief, but don't beat yourself up over any of it - just enjoy it and don't ever do anything you're not comfortable with."
